The Lincoln Log: January 2015

http://lincolnlog1972.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 18, 2015. Frontier Culture Museum - Staunton, Virginia 2008. This is a post delayed 5 years in the writing. The weekend we visited, they were showing cloth production. We first visited the English farm where they were washing wool to prepare it for spinning. The house was a half-timbered sort of building also called a daub and wattle building. As one acquaintance would have said, "It's so pastoral! The kitchen featured a large, open fireplace for cooking and heating. The next site we visi...

Thursday, May 14, 2015. Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make It Do, Or Do Without - Quilts from Recycled Jeans. When I went to pick her up to bring her to our house, she had a laundry basket full of denim strips from the jeans and a variety of backings and batting. I started right in sewing the strips together into longer strips and then used my rotary cutter to make them straight. Labels: Sewing and Crafts. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Monday, February 24, 2014. Worth Waiting For - Part 2 - Lucy Rebecca. We spent the week preparing freezer meals, catching up on laundry and other similar activities. We read with grandchildren and helped with special school projects. At last, our wake up call came at 4:30 AM as they decided to go to the hospital after a couple of hours of serious contractions. Just before 7 AM, little Lucy Rebecca made her way into the world. It is hard to believe that we are lucky enough to have 22 grandchildren. Then w...

The Lincoln Log: August 2014

http://lincolnlog1972.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Amelia and her great-grandma came to stay at our house for a few days. Shortly after Great-grandma went shopping, Amelia discovered a magic box. It looked like an ordinary box of Peanut M&Ms, but when Amelia opened the box, only one piece of candy was there, so she ate it. Later she found the box on a chair and picked it up. It rattled! It was another piece of candy! This morning when Amelia woke up, she found the previously empty magic box.and guess what? A candy was inside.

The Lincoln Log: June 2015

http://lincolnlog1972.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 20, 2015. On the way home from a recent trip we spotted a little sign pointing to a place called Cove Fort. Between a love for historic sites and a desire to get out of the car for a while, we stopped to see what was there. We were surprised at how nicely it had been restored and were given a tour. The living quarters of the folks who lived in and ran the fort were on one side of the inside walls of the structure. This amazing bed can be turned upside down and used for a bench! Work on a '...

The Lincoln Log: Pioneer Life 2015

http://lincolnlog1972.blogspot.com/2015/06/pioneer-life-2015.html

Saturday, June 20, 2015. It is always fun to take a trip back to a slower paced time when we volunteer at the pioneer site at the American West Heritage Center. Life is still busy, but in a different way than modern times. Work on a 'new' old cabin has begun. This cabin was recently found within the walls of a home that was being remodeled or torn down for some reason. It is more than a hundred years old. We hope when renovations of the cabin are complete, it will give us a bit more space! Picture Window...
