Ramblings from Fink Family Farm: August 2015
http://lindafink.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. A journal of life on our Oregon farm. Friday, August 7, 2015. Grandkid Days in Photos. Ian arrived first. We nabbed him from his parents at the Devonwood Horse Show in July where his mom's beautiful mare, Elfenlady was showing. Here she is in front of the judge's stand, before entering the ring. Ian had a week at the farm helping with chores, cooking, monitoring Black Oystercatchers at the beach, and playing in the creek, or what's left of it. Waiting for the train. We pl...

Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. A journal of life on our Oregon farm. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Meanwhile, Back on the Farm. But I did take a lot of photos of the lovely sunsets we had each night. And a few of the many flowers blooming in our yard on this early spring. Nancy got to taste the custard and ice cream and was so impressed she took some milk home to make more for herself. using her emu eggs for the custard. It took a little longer to sell all the artichokes and the last rooster. Altho...

Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. A journal of life on our Oregon farm. Wednesday, December 24, 2014. The living Christmas tree in front of our house. I managed to string lights this year without falling off the ladder. The wreath sent to the east coast arrived without rosehips, the wreaths sent to Colorado were delayed in the mail and arrived all dried out. This wreath I hung on the goat barn with plastic goat collars. At least it's colorful. Now that that's out of the way, what to say about our year?

Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. A journal of life on our Oregon farm. Saturday, August 30, 2014. Today, Saturday, we finally had a little rain. and a lot cooler weather. Hallelujah! After picking up my friend and tour guide for the day, Dawn, at her home in Nelscott (part of Lincoln City now), we headed for Boiler Bay where we had a picnic lunch. Below us was the boiler, partly uncovered. Here five BLOY were visible through the fog. At the historic lighthouse at Cape Foulweather, we spotted two whales a...

Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. A journal of life on our Oregon farm. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. World Cup Trip: Beyond Horses. All mornings of our World Cup trip, except the first, were without events, so we toured the University of Nevada at Las Vegas campus, which is where the Thomas and Mack Center, where the events were held, is located. The architecture of the campus buildings is beautiful. A large "flashlight" sculpture in the center of campus was simply. well. odd. Every day we walked two miles ...

Trees: December 2013
http://finkfamilyfarmtrees.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 31, 2013. The two-needled pine I bought as a Japanese Black Pine is, apparently, a Scot's Pine. See my blog entry here: http:/ lindafink.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-mystery-pine.html. The tree I bought as a Scot's Pine does not look like the one that I now know is. But they can apparently look quite unlike one another. Is the tree below a Scot's Pine, too? Below is the tree I bought as an Austrian Pine (when it was tiny). Is it? It also has not yet made cones. Of prickly cones this year.
Wildflowers: August 2013
http://fffwildflowers.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Wildflowers identified on our Oregon Farm. Saturday, August 31, 2013. The very pretty flowers are small but numerous and the plants are plentiful. apparently they reseed themselves and form colonies. They have formed a large colony in our pond when I wasn't watching. I'll try to get more photos to add another time. Update: I found this plant under the name Cape Jewelweed, also Impatiens capensis, on the pnwflowers.com site. That site says:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ramblings from Fink Family Farm.

Wildflowers identified on our Oregon Farm. Saturday, May 3, 2014. Spring Woodland Wildflowers, Part 2. The earliest flowers in our woods seem to have mostly finished blooming now (like those confusing Cardamines) so I'll start a new post for later spring bloomers. So far, these are not as spectacular as the early bloomers. On April 29, the floor of the woodland was carpeted in green. and not many other colors. The delicate Western Bluebells are providing touches of blue. May 12: Pacific Starflower. The W...
Wildflowers: March 2015
http://fffwildflowers.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wildflowers identified on our Oregon Farm. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. March, 2015, wildflower beginnings in our woods. March 9 mystery lily that seldom gets to bloom. maybe this year. alas on March 16 the leaves had been eaten off under the ground and were lying, wilting, on top. A few small ones remained intact. On March 19, all were eaten off but there were these clustered tiny things in the same area that may be more trying to come up? March 24, all gone. Oxalis not yet in bloom. Cow parsnip young leaves.

Sunday, August 24, 2014. So what is it? Our guesses are Knobcone Pine (Pinus attenuata) or Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata) or a hybrid of those. Can anyone enlighten me? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

Ramblings from Fink Family Farm
Ramblings from Fink Family Farm. A journal of life on our Oregon farm. Sunday, April 1, 2018. April 1st and Easter Sunday coincided this year. Maybe that's why a giant Easter bunny left us giant eggs. Or maybe they are dinosaur eggs? Our spring-like weather turned a little chilly today, but the primroses don't care. And my one and only Camellia is beginning to bloom. The horse wagon is still in bloom, although this photo is from last week. A few days earlier, on another sunny day, I took a break from far...
