About David J Wright. June 3, 2014. I began my circle route of the Somme, or more accurately the District of Picardi, and now I return to Amiens before proceeding on to Paris. Amiens is in a strategic location on the Somme river. As a result, the city was an object of attention in both World War 1 and World War 2. At the end of WW2, one of the few remaining buildings was the cathedral. What a rich history she has! The altar in the photos below certainly confirms the wealth accrued from the adventure.
