First taxi driver that sought me out offered me an average price, then tried to sell me a place to stay in a hotel. When he realised maybe I’m staying for a while he tried to sell me a place to live. Anyway, here I am in this seven-sided waiting hall, after a brief (several hour) problem involving my clothes and a much-to-my-surprise closed-on-Sunday laundry shop, and there’s a baby crying, people staring, an Arab sleeping and I’m surrounded by God-knows-whom (suddenly I can’t recognise a local from a foreigner) .

Friday night’s celebrations had a suitably festive theme. A reasonably civilised dinner laid on by the teachers gradually descended into a riotous piss up and by midnight people were quite literally being scraped off the floor. I woke this morning feeling rather strange. I have of late, though wherefore I know not, lost all my mirth.
