Saturday, 19 July 2008. Use a flash diffuser. Direct the flash to a white ceiling less than 3m high. Use a reflector hold at shoulder height at the left or right side and direct the flash there. All these methods will avoid the flat shadows that direct flash light causes. Shoot with a flash if you are shooting with strong direct sun light. Thursday, 28 August 2008. Photoshop CS2 B&W conversion. Each RGB channel (Red,Green,Blue) offers a B&W interpretation that can be used to adjust the color. Create layers from all RGB channels. Explore adding a fourth Lightness layer by duplicating the image and converting to Lab color. Its different tonal structure might be useful. Paste it just above the background layer, below the rest of the RGB layers. Finally, experiment with a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer as the top layer and the colorize setting.
