LingaLonga - Stories of Women and Thirroul

LingaLonga is an old house in Thirroul, the village where my family have lived for 7 generations. I wanted to know more about the stories of interesting women who lingered in Thirroul - exploring their lives, as they lived, worked, died or visited in Thirroul. Mostly they passed through quietly, as the village nurtured & inspired them. Alas professional demands drew me away from writing for nearly 3 years. However now I have returned to share more stories. LingaLonga - Stories of Women and Thirroul. Sunday, March 9, 2014. Molly Callcott - Hardie Rubber Factory Worker Music Teacher Single Mum in 1930s in Thirroul. Television "soaps" often paint the past very nostalgically - happy families, Dad at work and Mum at home looking after the kids. However that was not every family's reality - in the 1930's there were marriage breakdowns or women were widowed over the decades. This is the story of one of the women who worked at the Hardie Rubber Factory. It is ...

I grew up near Kirton Road Austinmer and the Kirton's were widely known to be associated with the old Excelsior Mine that was across on the side of the railway line to Redman Avenue Thirroul, where I lived. Oops I confess that I hadn't heard of the writer Ashley Hay, until the Illawarra Mercury ( 13/4/2013. Featured her in an article on artists and writers, who had drawn inspiration from the narrow strip of land between Thirroul and Stanwell Park. But of course as a Thirroul resident, how could I not like the way the article described how her new book opens - with Thirroul being ".

A Snippet to My World. (:

A Snippet to My World. (:. Sunday, July 24, 2011. Hope she can sleep as long as she wants to. I'm deprived of sleep, despite that I sleep more than most people. My dark eye rings are becoming more prominent as the clock ticks. That is because my brain is thinking of work incessantly. Perhaps, that is also the reason why my hair seems to grow much faster than usual. I like the working environment too. My mentors, even the students are encouraging. 9829; loves, shuling. I'm the girl who loves. 9829; her dog.

Just another WordPress.com site. July 6, 2012. What I walked away with more than anything was seeing the gaps in my development that explained who I was and why I responded to people and situations the way I did. AND I walked away realizing that the fact I was as functional as I am is something of a miracle — confirmation in my mind that despite the chaos and craziness, God had always had me in the palm of His hand. You’ve got a friend. What’s wrong with this picture? May 28, 2012. May 9, 2012. A 75 year...

Lingering Past Midnight

Mr Anderson's Cooper - Trespassing - Truth and Consequence. Just before the sun finished off the remainder of day, two backyards sat side-by-side. One belonged to Roberto and Fernando Alvarez and their parents. The two little Puerto Rican boys played Wiffle Ball as the streetlights began to hum and flicker. Fireflies buzzed, giving off their quick yellow beacons. Although it was only the fifth inning, the boys agreed to move ahead to the top of the ninth. Behind a twist of Poison Ivy and Virginia Creeper...

The McKellar Clan

Sunday, August 3, 2014. Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Or at least it should). Our first camping trip of the season at "Camp Run-A-Muck." Also affectionately called "The Ranch". Norma and Thair own property by Ovid and graciously allow us to go camping! Thair built a small cabin and then brought in another and then a shed. There is no water, but there are beds and a roof over your head when it rains. He also has generators that you can plug in to the cabins for power! We love this spot! Nikell had a tummy ache.
