Alison's exploits in Turkey. Word of the Day: peri bacaları = “fairy chimneys”. On Saturday morning around 7am, the whole CLS crew, our language buddies, and a few of our teachers hopped on a coach bus for the 4-hour drive to Cappadocia. The next day involved some soft-core spelunking in some more of the area&#...

Alison's exploits in Turkey. Where are you from? I was walking along the street and chatting with two friends in English today when a guy came up from behind, flanked us, and posed the single most overused English phrase among Turks when they’re trying to start up a conversation with English speakers: “Where are you from? 8221; This is usually accompanied by a giant, expectant grin and a blushing American on the other end ashamed at being called out for being so obviously yabancı (foreign).

Alison's exploits in Turkey. So, this post is actually going to span two weekends, since I didn’t quite finish wrapping up all of last weekend’s events before the week was through. So, after 2 hours of bumming around in the heat looking at ancient stuff, we hopped back in our cabs (the drivers had been patiently waiting for us the whole time) and headed back to the city. In other news, I had two language-learning breakthroughs today:. From → Uncategorized. A Tale of Three Cities →. Enter your comment here.

Science in the world today. Science Networking Project: Twitter Revisited. November 24, 2011. In my initial post. There are some preliminaries to take care of before getting to the good stuff. The first being: students will need a Twitter account ( @IleneDawn. Has also suggested the use of HootCourse.
