Linusleics: Hospital visiting
http://linusleics.blogspot.com/2015/04/hospital-visiting.html
A site to show all the beautiful quilts made and donated to Project Linus in Leicestershire. Sunday, 19 April 2015. Last Monday, Paula and I went to visit Ward 10 of the Leicester Royal Infirmary's Children's Hospital to deliver some quilts. They were keen to take as many as possible, as, this being a surgical ward, there is a fairly rapid turnover of patients. We took 50 quilts, which is quite a lot to carry! When we arrived on the ward, the duty nurse said, "You must be the blanket ladies! 5 Take a blo...
Linusleics: Sew Sociable
http://linusleics.blogspot.com/2015/04/sew-sociable.html
A site to show all the beautiful quilts made and donated to Project Linus in Leicestershire. Sunday, 19 April 2015. We had a busy week, as on Friday we went over to Sew Sociable's monthly meeting in Leicester. We were delighted to be invited back for some Linus sewing, and a big thank you to Debbie, Emily, Julie and Liz who came along and helped out. And before you ask, yes, I did buy some fabric! The person in the green dress is Julia, one of the organisers. She is lovely and a delight to chat to. There...

A site to show all the beautiful quilts made and donated to Project Linus in Leicestershire. Saturday, 7 February 2015. Knit and Stitch is four! This week, Knit and Stitch had its fourth birthday, which is a great achievement. Sewing and knitting for good causes is obviously very popular. We had cake (provided by me - so far no one has phoned in sick! And everyone seemed to enjoy it. Busy under Paula's excellent tuition, making her first blocks. Maria is an extremely prolific and talented quilter and she...
Linusleics: November 2014
http://linusleics.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
A site to show all the beautiful quilts made and donated to Project Linus in Leicestershire. Tuesday, 11 November 2014. A visit from the fairies. My husband was happily watching sport on the TV yesterday (I was in my sewing room, doing something or other) when there was a text message on our landline. This surprised him in itself, but the message was strange too! It said there was a parcel outside the door. We opened the door, and there in the porch was not just one bag of goodies, but several! 9 Donate ...

A site to show all the beautiful quilts made and donated to Project Linus in Leicestershire. Tuesday, 18 February 2014. Quorn Country Crafts rock! What is it about quilters? Why are so all so lovely? Is it something to do with the chemicals in the fabrics or is it more to do with creative genes? Anyway, I was invited by Susan to Woodhouse to Quorn Country Crafts Quilting Group where the kindness, generosity and all-round loveliness of quilters was demonstrated yet again! In Loughborough. And here is ...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: March 2015
http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 20 March 2015. While Lynda's away the ladies will play and we certainly did! The meeting didn't end until almost 10 o'clock. I had visions of us all turning into pumpkins! The speaker was Amanda Hall from monkey buttons. She told us all about how her business started and grew. She went from designing one or two patterns a year to sometimes producing six a month! She now has a catalogue of about 130 designs. That's a lot of bags! This one she preferred as the colours were more muted. The next day ...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: April 2015
http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 24 April 2015. At the April meeting we had an array of different workshops lead by members. Bunty showed how to do quilt as you go. Look at her fabulous Blue Peters! She has done a great job here. Sian showed how to make fabric flowers. These are lovely embellishments and can make brooches too. Some people used the evening to catch up with friends - that's what I did! Vicki showed how to do foundation piecing, and brought some cute little Santas for people to practise on. One of the quilts donate...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: June 2014
http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, 29 June 2014. The June meeting was full of inspiration. Jan Baker - a local textile artist - came along and described her artistic progress, from initial concept (which was old manuscripts) through a heritage seed collection to her final pieces which were screen printed and assembled into cushions and pictures. Here is jan with some of her work. The images were taken from old botanical illustrations, and lettering. Jan also generously brought her sketch books to show her thought processes. Everyo...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: July 2013
http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 18 July 2013. It was a hot evening, and June's raffle of seaside fabric (plus a teddy complete with sunglasses relaxing in a deck chair! Just hit the spot. The border of the mystery quilt was revealed, and some people had brought their completed quilt centres for show and tell. Gwyneth has made two quilts, one in blues and another in sophisticated turquoise, tan and burgundy. My blocks wouldn't play nicely together, so I substituted a few. So I'm hoping that people have been busy with their mys...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: Heather Jacks evening
http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2015/07/heather-jacks-evening.html
Sunday, 19 July 2015. In July we were thrilled to be able to welcome The Great British Sewing Bee winner 2014 Heather Jacks. She gave a very entertaining talk about her experiences during the television series, and gave us behind the scenes information. She brought along several garments she had made, and shared the secrets of their inspiration and construction. It was a lovely evening, with quite a few visitors joining us. June had a fun summer raffle, with more sunbathers relaxing on towels. Japanese f...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: January 2014
http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 29 January 2014. Of course, there are always some people for whom scrappy is a step too far. Despite their best efforts, they end up matching fabrics and colours, as they just can't help themselves! These will be fine with the rest of the blocks. Altogether we made 29 twelve inch blocks, which is nearly enough for 2 Linus quilts! Very good result from just an hour's sewing! Membership has stayed steady, and we were able to accommodate a couple of new people who wanted to join the group. 22nd S...
master of patience?: Festival of Quilts
http://lyndahill.blogspot.com/2015/08/festival-of-quilts.html
How I demonstrate that far from being a master of patience, I have a short attention span and am attracted to try out lots of fabric related techniques and ideas. Monday, 10 August 2015. Last week it was the wonderful Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham. It's a must-see as far as I'm concerned, plus an opportunity to do some serious shopping. I had my list all ready. And here is the result. I'm sure it'll be better once it's quilted - once I think of a pattern to bring out the design. Bonnie is b...

Linus learns to draw
In school I barely passed art class. But I've always longed to be able to draw. In 2009 I decided to teach myself how, and since then I've saved all of my 114. Doodles. I collect them here. I'm still no illustrator, but I've made progress. To be honest, exposing everything, the good and the bad, is pretty intimidating. I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

A site to show all the beautiful quilts made and donated to Project Linus in Leicestershire. Monday, 19 March 2018. Today I had a visit from Helenka, who works for East Midlands Foster Care. We have met before, and she remembered coming to my house to pick up quilts, but she was rather shocked when I showed her her photo on this site, and it was 2014! Time flies when you don't concentrate! Thank you Helenka, and I hope it's not another four years before we meet again! Thursday, 8 March 2018. We are alway...
