A Lightweight Low-Battery Warning Monitor for GTK+ 3.x desktops - Yet Another Linux Blog
http://linux-blog.org/lightweight-low-battery-warning-monitor-gtk-3-x-desktops
Yet Another Linux Blog. Open Source, Open Blog. A Lightweight Low-Battery Warning Monitor for GTK 3.x desktops. 6 February, 2015. 7 February, 2015. A laptop’s battery gives us the comfort of storing power which we can use later. However, sometimes this comfort turns into pain. For example, if we take our laptop with us, thinking that it’s charged (but it actually isn’t), or if we leave our laptop powered on and it silently turns off resulting in the loss of valuable work. Yet Another Linux Blog. Open Source, Open Blog. JARVYS, Set It and Forget It Linux Backups. 15 January, 2015. 15 January, 2015. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a cloud based file backup system that put Linux FIRST? One that made it so we didn’t have to use FUSE? One that didn’t put out a Windows client first and the Linux client was an afterthought? One that you could get installed and configured quickly and easily which would allow you to ‘set it and forget it’? JARVYS and Xerq.io. We have a company n...

Adventures in Linux: Where Wizards Stay Up Late - The Origins of the Internet
http://kingbeetle66.blogspot.com/2009/10/where-wizards-stay-up-late-origins-of.html
My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Saturday, October 10, 2009. Where Wizards Stay Up Late - The Origins of the Internet. While perusing the computer books at my local library I came across a book entitled Where Wizards Stay Up Late - The Origins of the Internet. By Katie Hafner and Matthew Lyon. It looked interesting, so I checked it out. This book is a really good read. Posted by King Beetle. I am a 40...

My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Monday, October 26, 2009. Calling a Perl Script from a web page using JavaScript. Ever wanted to include some dynamic data on your web page, but didn't want to (or restrictions didn't allow you to) code the entire page server-side? I was too until I developed a working example of how it works. First, the Perl code; I'll call it "cow quote.pl":. As you can see, all.

My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Thursday, September 24, 2009. Zenwalk - Gnome Edition. I am a fan of lightweight Linux distributions, mostly because my motley crew of computers mostly consists of older, usually outdated machines that just aren't up to the task of running full blown (and bloated distros) like Ubuntu or Fedora. It seems like lots of folks rave about Zenwalk. After selecting the swap pa...

My adventures and experiences relating to a variety of primarily GNU/Linux related subjects that interest me and can perhaps help others. Sunday, October 11, 2009. Cowsay - A Configurable Speaking/Thinking Cow. Cowsay is a silly little command line text filter that displays a cow saying (or thinking) whatever text you feed it. For example, each time I log into my server via ssh I am greeted by a friendly cow who gives me a random quote. Some of the options available:. Option initiates Borg mode;. Making ...

System Notes Org: RHCE Study Notes - SMTP
http://systemnotesorg.blogspot.com/2007/04/rhce-study-notes-smtp.html
Friday, April 27, 2007. RHCE Study Notes - SMTP. Study notes for any exam are difficult enough to find, but RHCE material seems even more scarce. This article tells how to prepare for one of the objectives, which is configuration of an SMTP server. I wrote up some study notes as I was preparing for the RCHE exam. Here are some quick notes based on the official RedHat objectives. Labs, and possible questions I thought might be reasonable requests. Install sendmail, sendmail-cf, sendmail-doc (optional).
System Notes Org: How to Hide Files and Directories in Linux
http://systemnotesorg.blogspot.com/2007/05/how-to-hide-files-and-directories-in.html
Saturday, May 12, 2007. How to Hide Files and Directories in Linux. In Linux, directories are not accessible until the device is mounted. This is usually done at startup by the mount command which uses the /etc/fstab file. Files that start with a dot "." are hidden, but not completely (you can do ls -a to see the files). An example is the /.bashrc file. You can also hide files in a directory name that starts with a dot, e.g. /.ssh. Now for the real trick. Dev/hda1 on /boot type ext3 (rw). Data Recovery: ...
