Publications and Conference Presentations. Social Networking and Shared Resources. Surviving the Times: #HLTH, Data and Keeping Librarians Relevant. The library world has been disturbed to hear news of layoffs from Harvard’s Library. What can we do as librarians to help ourselves and our field? Librarian in the city. What book are you reading? 8221; Where else but a library would you hear a question like that at an all-staff meeting with a new leader? She answered the question in the same way I had when posed the same question a week or two earlier: how can you pick just one? Currently I’m in the middle of three books:. The Gold Bug Variations. Librarian in the city. The Identity Crisis of the Librarian/Informationist/Data Scientist. More and more lately, I’m asked the question “what do you do? 8221; This is a surprisingly difficult question to answer. Often, how I answer depends on who’s asking – is it someone who really cares or needs to know? In some regards, that’s fine. Does it really matter if my mom and dad know what it means that I’ve taught hundreds of scientists R? Not really (they’re still really proud, though! What’s in a name?

Librarian in the city. So you think you can code. I’ve been thinking about many ideas lately dealing with data and data science (this is, I’m sure, not news to anyone). I’ve also had several people encourage me to pick my blog back up, and I’ve recently made my den into a cute and comfy little office, so, why not put all this together and resume blogging with a little post about my thoughts on data! In particular, in this post I’m going to talk about coding. It’s not scary! And if not, why not? Radical R...

Librarian in the city. While my mom and I were in Switzerland in June 2009, our first stop was Lausanne, where we arrived the day after Roger Federer won the French Open. This became handy when we received star treatment around the whole country thanks to our fortunate last name (and yes, he is actually a distant relative. Really distant). In my opinion, European butter like President and Plugra are the best, and it makes a big difference in getting a rich, buttery cookie. 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour.

Librarian in the city. Librarian in a New City: A Dispatch From North Bethesda. I haven’t blogged in a long time, and quite a lot has happened since my last posting here. I’ve sold my scooter and my surfboard, packed up all my stuff, and traded one coast for another. I’m no longer a Los Angeleno, but a North Bethesdian? 8211; seasons are pretty awesome so far. Look at that tree up there in the picture and all the leaves! Why aren’t there any homeless people throwing pizza or screaming at me here? ZERO In...

Librarian in the city. The Love of a Dog for Her Bag. Yeah, I know I said I was going to blog every day this week about what an informationist does, but to be honest, I started reading a really good book. And the blogging just didn’t happen. I will certainly regale the internet with more tales of the research informationist life at some point, but right now I’d like to tell you about Ophelia and her bag. Some of you reading the blog may be viewers of Ophelia Cam. March 15, 2013. Ophelia, Before and After.

Let me just try to start fresh, begin from here to try and blog more, be more informative, at least act like I have it all together! Until next time (sooner than later! Posted by The Four Feathers.
