Fifteen years of longsuffering | Lisa McKay Writing
https://lisamckaywriting.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/fifteen-years-of-longsuffering
Living in Laos, Learning to parent, Loving the journey. Monkeys drinking wine, nude maternity photos, and other such topics. What do writers read to their kids? Five authors share their favorite children’s books →. Fifteen years of longsuffering. March 12, 2012. It has been the month of patience. Or, maybe more appropriately, it has been the month of patience being tested. And it hauls up like a fishing net from dark depths a whole slew of emotions. Now, more than ever, I’m just not sure. Dominic’s cast ...

Living in Laos, Learning to parent, Loving the journey. Newer posts →. My childhood experiences that will sound strange to my kids. March 5, 2012. This post was supposed to go up on Friday but, ironically, the internet went down and stayed down for almost two days. Why ironic? The summer before we moved to Laos, Mike and I met both sets of our parents in Alaska and we all did the inner-passage cruise together. We learned something about our parents on that trip, something that shocked us. Grade national ...
What Would Jesus Do? | Lisa McKay Writing
https://lisamckaywriting.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/what-would-jesus-do
Living in Laos, Learning to parent, Loving the journey. A Big Decision: Writing Wednesday. Noisy neighbors (cont…) →. What Would Jesus Do? December 1, 2011. So I have a What Would Jesus Do problem. I don’t usually use the WWJD phrase, even in my own private thought life much less out loud. That’s partly because when I find myself tempted to ask what Jesus would do, I often deep down already know the answer and have previously avoided acknowledging said answer because. I don’t like it. I find it hard to e...

Living in Laos, Learning to parent, Loving the journey. Interview with author Nicole Baart. Awkward: A guest post by Leah Tioxon →. March 26, 2012. All is slightly chaotic on the Laos front as we prepare to move this weekend to a house that doesn’t have a spiral staircase, an unfenced pool adjoining the property, or neighbors running a woodworking business. Logistics galore. And trying to organize travel always makes me feel a bit like this:. I haven’t had an ear infection since childhood). I love this l...

Windows Into Our World: Risotto
http://whereintheworldmcnay.blogspot.com/2011/06/risotto.html
Windows Into Our World. Tuesday, June 14, 2011. The nice thing about risotto is I can actually make it, unlike gnocchi, which I will leave to the professionals. So here is a wonderful recipe from P-dub. I did not use wine in this, and I added my own variation of veggies. It was WONDERFUL! Posted by Dave, Ami, Hadleigh Claire, Annelise, and True. Zozo's Mom: The Swimsuit Issue
http://zozosmom.blogspot.com/2010/03/swimsuit-issue.html
Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Dear Lands' End,. However, you seem to be missing one anxiety zone in particular. May I suggest, "Enhance Ass"? You see, those of us with a no-butt face a particular difficulty during swim season. NOTHING looks good on us. Take the swim skirt:. Perhaps you could add something like this to your suits? Just an idea. Although I'm not sure if they float or sink. That would be something to look in to. For now, I'm just going to have to order the striped bottoms:. JozI know it is app...

Windows Into Our World: Fourth Year of Strawberries
http://whereintheworldmcnay.blogspot.com/2011/06/fourth-year-of-strawberries.html
Windows Into Our World. Thursday, June 16, 2011. Fourth Year of Strawberries. I think we were successful with our strawberry jam this year, and I am looking forward to making peach and plum in the coming weeks. Random side note: as I was taking these pictures of the girls this crazy lady kept jumping into the picture and trying to tell the girls how to stand.you can only imagine their reaction to that, but it did make for an eventful picture taking moment. Zozo's Mom: September 2010
http://zozosmom.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 13, 2010. A Lesson in Fear. Zoey has recently transitioned from diapers to panties. To be exact, panties with Elmo on them. And in case you have never potty trained another human being before, believe me when I tell you that the initial panty wearing period is HELL. Basically, you are just waiting around for an "accident" to happen. Will it happen on the new rug in the living room? Will it happen in the car? Will it happen in isle 3 of Market Basket? And here's the thing: YOU NEVER KNOW.
Zozo's Mom: Dr. Ferber Can Suck It
http://zozosmom.blogspot.com/2009/02/dr-ferber-can-suck-it.html
Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Dr Ferber Can Suck It. Just because it will be therapeutic to type it again: Dr. Ferber can suck it; he did not solve my child's sleep problems. We Ferberized months ago and although we got rid of Satan’s Tool (aka, the paci), Zoey is STILL not sleeping through the night. The last two nights she has woken up at 3:30 AM. When De has the baby monitor he tends to go to her after a while, pick her up, cuddle her, and often brings her back to our bed. Which I hate. Is her face ang...
Zozo's Mom: Wicked Smaht
http://zozosmom.blogspot.com/2011/06/wicked-smaht.html
Friday, June 3, 2011. My 3 year old seems to think I'm stupid. And embarrassing. Already. Look at the baby cow! It's called a calf. Me: Yes, that's right. Zoey: Well, shouldn't you know that? You're not a kid, you're an adult. (pause) You know that. Me: There's a button missing on these pants. I can't wear them or they'll fall down . . . Zoey: Mom, wear a BELT. Belts are for keeping up pants. Me: That's true . . . Zoey: Daddy knows about belts. How come you. Pause) I think you should know more things.
Zozo's Mom: The In-Between (Dad, this contains the F-word. So just skip over that part and pretend it never happened. 'Kay?)
http://zozosmom.blogspot.com/2009/12/in-between-dad-this-contains-f-word-so.html
Tuesday, December 29, 2009. The In-Between (Dad, this contains the F-word. So just skip over that part and pretend it never happened. 'Kay? But I was unable to control my emotions. At all. Ever. Yes, Mommy was a tad bit unstable. As in, Mommy could not be alone with Zoey. As in, when a song wouldn't play on the computer fast enough Mommy began to scream, S-C-R-E-A-M, "FUCK! WHY WON'T ANYTHING FUCKING WORK! I FUCKING HATE EVERYTHING! For the diagnosis, that it's a gift. Now I am me again. Fibromyalgia mus...

Thursday, September 10, 2009. Suriving the First Week. It is hard to believe I have survived the first week of school! I can honestly say I did not sleep at all the night before. I was so nervous! Once the kids started arriving, however, things seemed to fall into place. My class is great! There are 24 kids in my new class. The days seem to fly by, and I do not think that I have actually gotten through all of the activities in my plans once this week! I guess you figure things out as you go. :).
