Its that time of year: Katie and Casidy's Second Annual Celebrate for A Cause Fundraiser in honor of our birthdays! In appreciation of our friends' and families' generosity and a year of good health, Casidy has already run two kilometers on her birthday, and I will run 43 kilometers on mine. This isn't part of an organized race, we just go out and do it on our own! 100% of ...

Keeping up with Katie: June 2010

Keeping up with Katie. Thursday, June 10, 2010. Trip to Sequoia National Park with Mom. A few weeks ago, my most faithful visitor, my mom, came to visit. Since this was her third trip to California, we decided to go on a road trip to Sequoia National Park rather than hanging about Long Beach. We thought it would be fun. Okay, this is not our best picture but it is the only photo we have of us together all weekend. Yes, we were cold. The trails were covered with ice and snow and very treacherous. This is ...

Keeping up with Katie: November 2010

Keeping up with Katie. Friday, November 26, 2010. Anniversary Trip to Pismo Beach. In October, Pat and I celebrated our 10 th. Anniversary. On one hand, it seems impossible that we have been married that long! After a leisurely start Saturday morning we headed north on PCH. Destination had been Santa Barbara but ,apparently, SB is a very popular fall destination. Beach had been recommended as a laid-back beach destination so we wanted to check it out. Then we went for a walk on the beach. Our hotel w...

Keeping up with Katie. Monday, January 10, 2011. Mono Lake (Thanksgiving in Mammoth). When we checked the Mammoth Lakes weather report, we were dismayed to discover that the low for our first day would be 11 degrees. Luckily, we had packed warm clothing and even thrown in our snowshoes. This is our first view of Mammoth, at the visitors' center where we stopped to get some local information. Since we arrived late, we had an early pizza dinner, and hunkered down for the night. We would see. The Tufas.

Keeping up with Katie: August 2013
http://keepingupwithkatiee.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Keeping up with Katie. Friday, August 9, 2013. That first highpoint,Guadalupe Peak in Texas, was a nice hike and easily done. I happened to forget our camera so no pictures document our ascent. We were there, I swear. Below are a few stock pictures- just try to envision us there;). Guadalupe Peak: 8,750 Feet. The pyramid at the top commemorates a stagecoach road that passed south of the mountain. Clingman's Dome: 6,643 Feet. Do you think that counts the observation tower? At the Mount Whitney portal.

Keeping up with Katie. Monday, July 26, 2010. Visiting Friends in Montana. On our recent, epic 3,300 mile road trip to Yellowstone and Montana, we were very fortunate to get to catch up with many long-time friends so I wanted our first blog post to be dedicated to them! After a quick drive up through Yellowstone, we arrived at Aaron and Julie's house in Bozeman. However, we barely recognized it! On our first day in Bozeman. The next day, we hiked to Lava Lake, a perfect hike in the Gallatin. This little ...

Keeping up with Katie. Sunday, May 16, 2010. Putt Putt on Pine: a Cautionary Tale. When my friend Myrna invited me to participate in Leadership Long Beach's annual fundraiser, Putt Putt on Pine, I took my camera in anticipation of a tame blog entry about this fundraiser where teams of four rotate through Long Beach restaurants playing a hole of miniature. Golf at each location. As you will soon see, the night ended up being a bit more, well, how shall we phrase it.interesting.than originally. For the eve...

Keeping up with Katie: Adventures in Yellowstone
http://keepingupwithkatiee.blogspot.com/2010/08/adventures-in-yellowstone.html
Keeping up with Katie. Monday, August 2, 2010. After a thankfully uneventful 12 hour drive from Long Beach, we arrived at what we think of as the southern gateway to Yellowstone: the Grand Tetons. Seeing those great mountains rising straight up from the valley made us feel like we had arrived. After a night camping outside of Jackson, we headed straight for a Teton tradition: All-You-Can Eat Pancakes at Dornan's in Moose Junction. You don't go to Dornan's for the food, you go for the view. After a too-br...
