Saturday, July 30, 2011. Today is my birthday. What an amazing one! Our guide, Julio. We made a new friend. This sea lion followed us for a long, long time. We biked about 7-8 miles to the Wall of Tears. We stopped at a few places on the way. We had to watch out for turtles crossing the road. Whoah, buddy!

We woke up at 4:45 this morning to catch a speedboat to Santa Cruz Island. The small boat was packed with people and the two hour ride was very rough. I'm glad that's over. We biked about 6 miles to Tortuga Bay and enjoyed the beach. Even Flat Stanley went swimming. We had lunch at the beach. Here are some things we saw on the way home.

T explained that most of the 16 sea lions were rescued and brought to Atlantis after Hurricane Katrina destroyed Marine life Oceanarium in Mississippi. It is so great that Atlantis is a stranding and rescue operation as well as a marine park and is able to help many wayward marine mammals. Keep it Green and Blue!

First step was to bag and separate the salamanders from the leaves which they were bagged with. Then measurements were taken of the tail length and snout to vent length.
