World Cultures

Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Ch 21& My final thoughts. Overall, this was a very good novel. It was a pretty fast read, but if you take your time, you are sure to get a lot out of it. Some of it was hard to follow, but I was able to figure it out. I didn't really like how sad it was but even the sad ones are good sometimes. Next, it tells of Estha's last few moments with his mother at the train station. It is sad because none of them knew it was there last time all together. As far as the writing of this nove...

World Cultures: Ch. 17&18

http://www.lisaworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/ch-17.html

Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Now it is a while after Sophie's death. The author is telling about what the newspapers reported of the death. It said that Velutha had kidnapped the children, which is not true. I don't know why or what really happened, but the book said that this was not true. Clearly police brutality has different meaning in India than the United States. Cops here could never get away with such behavior, especially in today's world where someone with a cellphone might tape it. Ch 21& My final ...

World Cultures: Ch. 15&16

http://www.lisaworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/ch-15.html

Wednesday, May 14, 2008. As far as the writing of this novel, I said before that it was interesting, but it is getting harder to understand. They time periods switch so often that it is hard to keep track of when things happen. At first I thought that it made you pay attention more, but now I think that it is just distracting from the storyline because I am always figuring out when things happen. I guess the build of the plot didn't fit the billing for the suspense generated? May 27, 2008 at 3:24 PM.

World Cultures: January 2008

http://www.lisaworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 29, 2008. This chapter is talking about death. I thought it was kind of weird that after a chapter about starting a new life with a new person, Achebe decided to write about death. Maybe that is symbolic or it foreshadows something. I think the only reason that this one was so alive was because the man was very old and had had a wonderful life. I would just like to add that this is definitely the last chapter in part one! The book is halfway over! Are there to little of them? I guess tha...

World Cultures: Ch. 19&20

http://www.lisaworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/ch-19.html

Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Next, it tells of Estha's last few moments with his mother at the train station. It is sad because none of them knew it was there last time all together. Baby is (in my opinion) the true evil doer in this whole story. We learn of her self centered ways in the first few chapters. Is it any surprise that she pulls this stunt? Ammu stands up for truth, but it can't bring Velutha back I'm afraid. May 27, 2008 at 3:37 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ch 21& My final thoughts.

Mythology of Hinduism # 2. View my complete profile. Mr Farrell's Wiki Page. Thursday, February 7, 2008. I think the church gives Nwoye a chance at being accepted. Lets face it, his father was never going to love or accept him. The church does this quite wisely, by accepting the cast-offs of the tribe, it grows and grows in popularity. The so called “evil forest” doesn't do the trick after 28 days, which I think goes a long way to showing the natives that their pagan Gods are not real.

Mythology of Hinduism # 2. View my complete profile. Mr Farrell's Wiki Page. Thursday, February 7, 2008. Since Mr. Brown died his place was taken by Reverend James Smith. None of the cultural clan like him, after a few weeks of him, he suspended a woman from church for putting new wine in old bottles, WHAT does it matter? I think we are being shown the "Culture-clash" of the two faiths and value systems. Neither is right to do what they did as you said. The Town begins to fall apart too.

Sarah Wallace: "Crossing" from Lost Names

http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/crossing-from-lost-names.html

Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Crossing" from Lost Names. I thought this first story was pretty interesting. It was not at all what I had been expecting though. I expected it to be kind of like Things Fall Apart. Where there are like mini stories that all tie together to make one novel. However, that doesn't seem to be the case for Lost Names. From what I understand, each story is about the same family, just at different times in their life. May 20, 2008 at 3:11 PM. Often in Asia, names are not used but instead...

World History: TGOST Ch. 9 & 10

http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-9-10.html

TGOST Ch. 9 and 10. Present day, Rahel is watching toads, yet another "small thing" as she thinks about the day that she, Estha, and Sophie Mol went to visit Velutha, and how good he treated them. She mentioned that he was nothing like the parents, that he did not judge them or anything. He was just himself, and he let everyone be themselves also. The "Small things" definitely reoccur throughout the novel. (toads, bugs, etc). June 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). TGOST ch 5 and 6.

World History: TGOST Ch. 7 & 8

http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-7-8.html

TGOST Ch. 7 and 8. There is a lot of talk about insects at the end of chapter 6 and the beginning of chapter 7. The author makes a note of a lot of the little things in the story, like bugs. I suppose that is why the book is called The God of Small Things. At the beginning of Chapter 7, Rahel is looking through Pappachi's study for things that her and Estha had when they were children. Estha just stands by the door and watches his sister. June 1, 2008 at 12:33 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

World History: TGOST Ch. 17 & 18

http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-17-18.html

TGOST Ch. 17 and 18. Estha is sitting on his bed watching Rahel sleep, which is kind of weird, but it reminds him of his mother. He ironed Rahel's clothes for her, which I thought was kind of weird. Even though I do not personally believe this, I thought that would be seen as a woman's job, and Rahel would have ironed Estha's clothes, not the other way around. June 1, 2008 at 1:09 PM. This week something happened- an event that will go down in history. For the first time in the chronicle of the United States we as a people ignored bygone prejudices of previous generations and elected our first black President. I'm not one to dabble much in politics, but strangely enough after all was said and done, inside I felt a sense of pride in my country. A right or priviliege they deem worthy for their own. I started a blog. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Utah, United States. More than meets the eye.

Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Jesus Wants Me For A SUNBEAM. What the heck, when the heck did I get old enough to have no more kids in nursery and no more prospects of that either? Oh my, here's my little baby on her first day of SUNBEAMS. She was pretty excited for the big event - it quickly turned upside down and she frowned that smile away when it came time to sit with her class though. So here she is, my baby - growing up, way too quickly. I did cry. Don't judge. Thursday, December 12, 2013. As Christmas...
