LitCrit300: September 2008

http://litcrit300carlyparelius.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 30, 2008. That is like, SOO American! A couple of weeks ago in class, we were having a discussion in class that brought us to a discussion on the decline of rhetoric, which really peaked my interest. Sexson talked about the "Language of Chaos"and the ideas of the italian philosopher Giambattista Vico (see http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giambattista Vico. Theories influenced some of the most highly exalted authors in history (his. Scienza Nuovo - The New Science. Vico said that language w...

LitCrit300: November 2008

http://litcrit300carlyparelius.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 27, 2008. At The End of Don Quixote: the book and the man. Even with an awareness of what was revealed in our class discussions about the end of Don Quixote, I still couldn't imagine our knight renouncing his life's quest. Even through the chapter where he is defeated by the knight of the white moon, i still didn't expect Don Quixote to submit to his orders and return to his village. Not very Quixotic! Did he just call Sancho Panza. Is this my same Don Quixote? In Memory of WB Yeats.

LitCrit300: In Memory of WB Yeats

http://litcrit300carlyparelius.blogspot.com/2008/11/in-memory-of-wb-yeats.html

Thursday, November 27, 2008. In Memory of WB Yeats. I looked this poem up on google because Sexson cited the beautiful last lines after my presentation, reminding us that poetry is meant to praise, and that a defense of poetry is, effectively, it's praise. Here is the poem in its entireity. This is the poet WH Auden who wrotet "In Memory of WB Yeats". Not surprisingly, he was greatly influenced by William Blake. LitCrit300: October 2008

Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Nabokov: "Quit Laughing at Don Quixote! Http:/ query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html? It is not meant to be a heartwarming novel, but rather a heart wrenching one. I will explain this in more depth after i finish the lectures, but this article makes a good introduction! Mad-man of La Mancha. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom". 8220;The man who never in his mind and thoughts travel'd to heaven is no artist.” (Blake). Of researching and getting the answers to.

LitCrit300: More term paper support via Don Quijote

http://litcrit300carlyparelius.blogspot.com/2008/11/more-term-paper-support-via-don-quijote.html

Thursday, November 27, 2008. More term paper support via Don Quijote. I would like to include a few more parts from Don Quixote that take place in one of the episodes I used in my term paper, that is, "regarding what befell Don Quixote with a prudent knight of La Mancha" (Cervantes 550). That prudent knight being the man in the green coat. This episode is chock full of material that defends not only poetry, but specifically, english majors and student poets! http://eng300cn.blogspot.com/2008/12/end-of-english-300.html

Claire Nagode's Eng 300 Blog. Friday, December 12, 2008. The End of English 300. I have already said that I learned an unsurpassed amount this semester from Dr. Sexson, but I have also learned a lot from my fellow students. We are all here, as English major and minors, to celebrate the world of literature and of the word. I know I'm here because I love words and the ingenious ways they are put together to form sentences and phrases. And yes, I bet even dinosaurs liked to read. The End of English 300.

Thursday, September 25, 2008. Maybe a bit random. I have a feeling Plato would not have been too thrilled with the book Don Quixote. After our discussion in class on Wednesday, I have thought about Plato's notion that "imitative art has no place! A knight- -that which he...

Claire Nagode's Eng 300 Blog. Monday, December 1, 2008. Http:/ www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/marvell/coy.htm. When results of literature was mentioned in class today, my foggy mind finally woke a little. I thought almost immediately of a book I read in my high school senior AP English class; Life of Pi. That all said and done, Monday in class when we started to talk about the different school of criticism we've covered (New, Deconstructionism, Feminism, and Reader Response) and how we, as critics, wear different glasses or see through different lens when we read and/or analysis a text in a certain mode of criticism. Consequently Africa is something to be avoided just as the picture has to be hidden away to safeguard the man's jeopardous integrity. The article, cal...

Criticism 300

Friday, December 12, 2008. Well after an entire semester of reading more material then I would like I am finally glad to be done, but realistically are we ever done? There is then creative reading as well as creative writing. When the mind is braced by labor and invention, the page of whatever book we read becomes luminous with manifold allusion. Every sentence is doubly significant, and the sense of our author is as broad as the world. This is the Elegiac section. Wednesday, December 10, 2008. The upper...

Friday, December 12, 2008. Flash to 4 months later, the good news is I'm still alive! I've given hours of my time to reading N. Frye, Don Q, the critics and memorizing Idea. I am a better person because of it, not only in re-reading DQ and re-memorizing Idea, but revisiting the beauty of the critic's apologizes. In spite of all the work, I really did enjoy this class and am sad that it's ending. Friday, December 12. Dream about the power he has. Wrote a depressing story. Learn even through fiction. Class...
