Eat, Drink, and Be Literary

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary. Wednesday, June 5, 2013. 22nd Meeting: The Hobbit. In December (yep, I'm over six months behind.), the Eat, Drink, and Literarians had their 22nd meeting. Aaron hosted, and in honor of the first installment of The Hobbit. Movies (btw, we all agreed that it was outrageous to make it a trilogy of films), Aaron selected Tolkein's classic to discuss. The whole story is! When I was 12, I read the book (and watched the cartoon- anyone remember that terrible thing? What if I give yo...

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary: The Hunger Games Series

http://literarydrinking.blogspot.com/2011/09/hunger-games.html

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary. Sunday, September 11, 2011. The Hunger Games Series. Oh My Gosh. That is really all I can say. No spoilers here- the Games are best experienced if you have no idea what to expect. But, let me just say that these novels have something for everyone. If you can't remember the last time you stayed up all night to finish a book then it is time to pick up the The Hunger Games. Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games). And Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, Book 3).

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary: 19th Meeting: The Illustrated Man

http://literarydrinking.blogspot.com/2012/08/19th-meeting-illustrated-man.html

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary. Sunday, August 12, 2012. 19th Meeting: The Illustrated Man. I like to think that organizing a book club and writing a blog about the books I read means that I am a well-read person. But it's mostly a lie. I read every night, yes, but I don't read the books that I "should" read. You know, the books that everyone else. I guess you could also call them "classics". Ha! Everyone else in the world: "Oh, this book will be great! Was so amazing, I bet this will be wonderful too.".

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary: January 2013

http://literarydrinking.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Eat, Drink, and Be Literary. Friday, January 4, 2013. 20th Meeting: The Lathe of Heaven. After reading Ray Bradbury for our 19th book club, Mandy was inspired to choose another old school sci-fi book for our 20th meeting. She selected The Lathe of Heaven. By Ursula K. Le Guin (1971). While reading the book, I kept thinking to myself "I've heard this story before" in some form or another (e.g., Inception. Labels: book club meeting. The Lathe of Heaven. Ursula K. Le Guin. Eat, Drink, and Be Literary. If you would like to eat and drink more (and be less literary), please see my other blog What Katy Cooks. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am a graduate student working towards a PhD in Psychology. When I'm not at work running experiments and teaching undergraduates, I am usually in my kitchen preparing healthy and delicious meals, or curled up on the couch with a good book (or DVR'ed episodes of American Idol.). Reading is a pleasure, a passion, a never ending thirst. Monday, October 19, 2009. The wonder C.W. Gortner, author of The Last Queen. 1) Why do you think Juana was betrayed by those she trusted, who let the world think she was mad? 2) How do you think Isabella her mother would have reacted if she had know what was done to her daughter? 3) What did you discover about Juana during your research that didn't make it to the book? 5) How do you think Juana would have fared as Queen? Hopefully, I am returning t...

Scribblings of a Literary Dreamer | Thoughts of an English Major

Scribblings of a Literary Dreamer. Thoughts of an English Major. I’m Going to Party Like It’s My Birthday…. February 22, 2011. Today is my golden birthday! My favorite color is blue. But black is the color currently dominating my wardrobe. I once had a horse named Sundaywho was sold before his third birthday. I went to private school (and was home-schooled) for grades four through half of tenth. I started public high school as a socially inept tenth grader. I first read (my favorite novel). I didn’t go t...

Random Musings by Mike ©

Random Musings by Mike ©. An outlet for my occasional literary extrusions. Sunday, June 27, 2010. A character background, for an online game I'm playing, and in a sense a rip-off of a character another person I know was playing in the game I used to run. It's a Elven druid, and interesting controller/striker class. Four days later, Selyse came to me. I nodded numbly, unsure of how to respond. It gets easier," she said. "The killing.". Afterwards I retched in shock and shame. Selyse took my hands in hers&...

Literary Dust | A Bookish World

We had a lot to choose from, it felt like the shelves had been restocked since December, and nobody had any trouble finding what they wanted to read: which is kind of a rarity. But, I’ll take it. Not a better way to start another year than with a book you loved. There are two kinds of people. Those who love The Annoying Orange, and those that genuinely feel it is annoying (although, seriously, how can anyone keep a straight face during the “Screaming Rainbow” song? 8220;A Drop of Water” by Walter W...
