Leyden’s book club started in the fall of the 1999-2000 school year under the guidance of the district’s gifted program coordinator Janine Asmus and former West Leyden principal David Franson. Since its inception, club members have read books from numerous genres including fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, biography, fictionalized biography, non-fiction novel, short story, thriller and magical realism. Saturday, May 16, 2009. APRIL: The Red Thread by Nicholas Jose. Book group this month was a pretty quiet affair. Sam, Ange, Sonya, Marg and Jude had dinner at The Tenth Muse in Fitzroy. We tried to talk about the book, but conversation soon turned to more interesting topics! First important discovery was that not all editions of the book had the extracts from the ancient text in red print. Sonya thought the lesbian content was negligible and not very good. Sonya thought that she was an unlikable character.
