A writer's take on the business of books and the writing life. Friday, 3 April 2015. The Last Treasure Hunt - follow the trail of clues! Following on from author Jane Alexander's guest post on crafting fiction yesterday. Here, as promised, is the next clue in her publisher Saraband's exciting treasure hunt to win a signed copy of The Last Treasure Hunt -. There was something strange about this lady. Who’s usually the reverse. Normally she points the way. And she’ll do so again, another day. On top of tha...

A writer's take on the business of books and the writing life. Thursday, 12 March 2015. Author guest-post: Sarah Bower on the joys of a writing retreat in France. As regular readers of this blog will know, last autumn I ran a workshop/retreat for writers in the stunning location of St Ives, Cornwall. This was such a success that I'm running another in April! To see how idyllic it is! Here's what Sarah has to say about the value of a retreat for writers:. To scripts for Coronation Street. My own Fictionfi...

A writer's take on the business of books and the writing life. Tuesday, 25 October 2011. John Harding's Guest Post: 'The Apprentice', W.H. Auden and Me. Last week I posted my review of John Harding's novel Florence and Giles. And with Hallowe'en fast approaching, nothing more suitable for reading at dark o' night! Here, as promised, is John's guest-post for Literascribe, a cogent, thoughtful and spirited exploration of the strictures and challenges of author 'branding': enjoy! Talk to any author who's no...

A writer's take on the business of books and the writing life. Monday, 28 June 2010. It was, as it always is, a hectic weekend, made all the more exhausting by the humidity and heat. It was definitely the hottest Winchester Writers' Conference I've attended! Which meant a beautiful view across the valley to the wooded ridge beyond, trees all around and a light refreshing breeze. The morning light was just exquisite. Wish I'd remembered to bring my camera. As with so many good writer-speakers, Terry knew ...

Writers' Block: Go! Go! Go!
http://writersblock42.blogspot.com/2010/04/go-go-go.html
You may have read my post about Home Truths. Well, last night I went to see the three plays:. The Reading Group (Fay Weldon). Sour Graps and Ashes (Nick Warburton). The Last Bread Pudding (Nick Warburton). I have written a detailed review for Daily Information (www.dailyinfo.co.uk) and anyway a review of one of the plays (performed by different actors) is here. For £5 (if you get a concession) you receive almost three hours of entertainment. Incredible value for money. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A propos of nothing in particular .....: Oh hell...
http://lifeandmuvva.blogspot.com/2009/03/oh-hell.html
A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Friday, 13 March 2009. My partner unearthed this on the internet the other day. It's so brilliant I just have to pass it on:. Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? This is an actual question given on a. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Ms. Teresa Banyan during my Freshman year, ".that it wi...OK, t...

A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Tuesday, 21 August 2007. Another day, another box of tissues. Will I never shake this off? Mind you, at least one nostril has now made itself available for the mundane process of inhalation and exhalation. Which means I can now close my mouth when I eat. And possibly taste my food. Oh bugger it, I'd better go and see what they want for lunch. Cartoon by Dave Walker.

A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Monday, 11 February 2008. Not barking, but howling. I'm going to take a deep breath, then repeat this only once. When you're not interested in something, you're uninterested. In it, okay? Interested. Not dis. Not interested, as opposed to impartial. Please try to remember it. Please. I've been feeling pretty much like this. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Matilda Savitch...

A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Friday, 13 March 2009. As Good as It Gets. Okay I wrote bits of a book. Some time later, I wrote other bits. I thought I had a book. But then again, I wasn't sure. I put it in a back drawer. I sulked for another year. Then I dragged myself on an Arvon course. Then another. On the second, one of the tutors made a couple of really helpful suggestions. I...So I waited&#...

A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Thursday, 19 March 2009. F*ck, B*gger, Sh*t. Every now and then everything falls apart. And I mean EVERYTHING. It'll happen over a few days, invariably just before my period. It's like the Universe tires of sending me those good ol' life challenges in dribs and drabs, and decides it may as well bundle them all up and drop them on me all in one go. 5 Said partner - we...

A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Tuesday, 14 July 2009. One small step . Do kids still do that? Yes, the space program was expensive, but nothing compared with the world's military budgets. The US spent around $26 billion getting a man to the moon; in 1968 alone its defense budget was more than $78 billion. And the Russians spent a great deal less in getting to the big cheese. OK, the facts: I'm 47,...
A propos of nothing in particular .....: Haven't we been here before?
http://lifeandmuvva.blogspot.com/2009/02/havent-we-been-here-before.html
A propos of nothing in particular . Rants, reviews, comments, whinges, experiences, memories. Perhaps even the occasional item of interest. Tuesday, 24 February 2009. Haven't we been here before? I used to be a real Lynch fan. I practically knew every line in 'Eraserhead' off by heart. I was glued to 'Twin Peaks'. Loved 'Blue Velvet' and 'Wild at Heart'. All in all, I was left wondering what's the problem here - that I grew up or David Lynch didn't? 27 February 2009 at 07:26. The Zen of Recovery" Mel Ash.

A writer's take on the business of books and the writing life. Thursday, 1 March 2018. From injustice to insight: Jane Davis guest-posts about what inspired her new novel's powerful examination of resilience after tragedy. Write about how Smash all the Windows. It sounds so simple. The seed of my novel was anger. I remember that quite clearly. I was appalled by the press’s reaction to the outcome of the second Hillsborough inquest.
