¿Y Entonces...?: June 2014
http://hardcorpscarli.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 15, 2014 -. My apologies for procrastinating on writing this post. It's been. Months in the making, but it's also taken that long to figure out what I want to say. Two years. Twenty seven months.not to be stereotypical, but they indeed did fly by so fast. Now, looking back, I feel like that whole experience was so long ago, but I've been home for less than 3 months! At the end of our presentation, we got our official Peace Corps certificates commemorating the completion of our service. Say g...

Wednesday, November 27, 2013 -. My trip to the US was awesome and just the rejuvenation I needed to get me thru this last chunk of my service. I got to see 2 university campuses that I'm applying to, hang out in (and fall in love with) Chicago and Grand Rapids, eat GREAT food and meet incredible new friends. Reunited with my favorite Aggie volunteers! One of my favorite people ever. Herb bagel with whipped feta! One of the guys. Trying to stay warm and deciding the day's plans. Last dinner in Grand Rapids.

Thursday, January 3, 2013 -. Holidays and New Year's in Nicaragua. 161;Feliz Año Nuevo! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season with lots of love and cheer. Though most volunteers tend to go back to the states around the holidays, I chose to stay in Nicaragua. I have celebrated 22 Christmases/Hanukkahs/New Years in the US and I thought it'd be a nice change to see how a different culture celebrates the end of the December festivities. Who causes all of this happiness? Later on, Nicaraguans have Chr...

Friday, February 21, 2014 -. Busy Week in Managua. After the Youth Leadership Camp, I started making my way down south towards Managua for what was going to continue to be a very busy week. I had a couple of days free between the end of the camp and the beginning of my close-of-service medical appointments, so a couple of my closest friends and I went to the beaches of Chinandega to have an early birthday celebration. I'm going to miss the Pacific sunsets. At the Flor de Caña factory. My pup goes home ne...

http://hardcorpscarli.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 7, 2013 -. After not leaving Nueva Segovia for a solid month and working that entire month, I decided to give myself a treat and take a mini vacation with some friends to the department of Matagalpa (where else? We met up with another volunteer whose sister was visiting from the states and we all went to a beautiful waterfall right outside of the city and had a lovely day sunbathing, picnic-ing, and ended the night having wonderful Italian food and hanging out at a lounge. The contents of t...

Sunday, June 16, 2013 -. Más Allá del Oro: "There's More Out There Than Gold". First of all.I'm happy to introduce you all to my new puppy, Pípe Jalapeña:. ON WITH THE SHOW! Though I've run that distance multiple times, it is still a scary number! My counterpart and I discussed and decided it was best to add two more races, one of 14k (about 9 miles) and one of 10k (about 6.2 miles). With those three races in total, more interest rose with the community. The day of the race, we all met up at the park at ...

¿Y Entonces...?: December 2013
http://hardcorpscarli.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 1, 2013 -. World AIDS Day 2013. HIV/AIDS was one of the main reasons that I joined the Peace Corps. A dear friend of mine got a positive diagnosis shortly before I left for Nicaragua. The emotional pain it caused me and other loved ones made me believe in the fight even more and I want to do my part in making sure no one else has to go thru that. Right now, it is estimated that 1.1 million people in the US alone are living with HIV, and of those, 1 in 5 do not know they have it. Follow M...

Friday, February 21, 2014 -. During the first week of February, I escorted 5 teens from rural communities of Nueva Segovia to the cold. All the PCV camp counselors with our fearless PC director and assistant. Alongside another Health volunteer from the group that's about to celebrate their one-year anniversary, we taught a 1.5 hour session of how to educate about HIV and teen pregnancy to the campers' peers. We went into the camp assuming (we assumed correctly! My co-counselor with one of our "juguetes".

Thursday, October 10, 2013 -. 6 Months To Go. Hey there, blog. It's been a while. I haven't been up to much too exciting, recently, hence no new and exciting posts. Let's do a quick recap of the past 2 months:. I worked a lot in the high schools (yes, we now have two. Our main high school, INAJAL, has over 2,500 students, and MINED (Ministry of Education) decided to transform a primary school to a high school in the afternoon, which now hosts about 500 students) with the topics of Nutrition and Dengue.
