Are the ones that make the biggest difference. So all this election stuff is swirling around when news of the latest violence in Pakistan and Kenya makes the news, and this the violence of election politics. Who won? Will there even be elections? Why are we so different than other parts of the world where elections and violence are hand-in-glove? How do we get the Iraqis to commit to that? How do we get Afghanistan to favor the national whole over the tribal division? I'm to get all of the Casting Crowns...

Are the ones that make the biggest difference. New church - where do you draw the line? Our time in Orthodoxy had given us a stronger appreciation of the intentional nature of worship. Singing pop-music to set up a sermon ain't it. In my distinct pleasure of the simple liturgy, the quality of the homilies and the architecture (say what you want, I still think the design of our worship space is important! Or should I be more local minded? So what are the local issues that could potentially cross the line?

Are the ones that make the biggest difference. When you have entered the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance and have taken possession of it and settled in it,. Take some of the firstfruits of all that you produce from the soil of the land the LORD your God is giving you and put them in a basket. Then go to the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name. The priest shall take the basket from your hands and set it down in front of the altar of the LORD your God.

peering over the eastern edge of the world: August 2007

Peering over the eastern edge of the world. This is not the most interesting blog around. I write for myself, and allow people to listen in. Wednesday, August 22, 2007. My classes started yesterday. I was laughing at how easy my last semester will be with 3 100-level courses in the same semester. Each class requires (amond other things) a 3 page *gasp* research paper. If there's one thing my philosophy major has prepared me for it is writing papers. And 3 pages ain't much. Friday, August 17, 2007. Monday...

Peering over the eastern edge of the world. This is not the most interesting blog around. I write for myself, and allow people to listen in. Tuesday, December 26, 2006. I forgot to mention this, and I didn't want to add it to my Christmas post, but I got my grades already. First of all, at the eight weeks I had 1 A, 3 B's and a C. Seriously. Anyways, I had resigned myself to lower grades than I'm used to. So, now you can understand why I say Glory to God for the straight A's I somehow got. This has been ...

New Orthodox Mission in Cape Girardeau, MO. Glory be to God! While we were down visiting through the midsouth and midwest we learned that there's now an Orthodox mission started in Cape Girardeau, MO: St. John the Theologian. The foundation was laid. About six months after we moved to Nebraska to be closer to an Orthodox parish. Ironic?

Peering over the eastern edge of the world. This is not the most interesting blog around. I write for myself, and allow people to listen in. Tuesday, September 18, 2007. Hopefully I will shortly post a photo from our trip to Holy Presentation Monastery. In Marshfield, MO. Three of us from Nativity and 1 man from St. Nicholas made the trip down to spend some time working in the yard. The monastery is fairly new, so there is lots of work to do down there, if anyone has time or expertise to offer.

Peering over the eastern edge of the world. This is not the most interesting blog around. I write for myself, and allow people to listen in. Sunday, January 28, 2007. It's winter here, although there probably won't be any snow. We're preparing to have friends over for lunch this afternoon. In an hour or so our family will say the morning prayers together. That's our custom when we can't make the drive to St. Louis for Liturgy. So, the Sunday after next I'll be sharing my journey to the ancient faith with...

Peering over the eastern edge of the world. This is not the most interesting blog around. I write for myself, and allow people to listen in. Monday, July 23, 2007. My Personal Faith Journey. Since I recently got quoted on a popular Orthodox blog, I wanted to make a post recapping my journey (or at least linking to different points in it [in chronological order]. Little Fighting Guys
This is my project log for miniatures and wargaming hobby pursuits. Thursday, April 30, 2015. Pirate crewman (hairy mutant! This pirate crewman is a work in progress, but I don't plan to add many more parts, if any. He's built from a Flagellant head, Beastman Ungor upper torso and arms, and an Imperial Guard bolt pistol. The Beastman arms and torso are really muscular, so I thought this guy would make a good 'brute' character. Old Spacer and Servitors. His armor is just Space Marine power armor, but with...

Sunday, 15 February 2009. Back to the Napoleonics. And a bit of success with the camera! Well no. But there we are. Worse things happen at sea. The figs and flag are by AB. The flag is actually the 11th rgt, but who is going to get close enough to see that. Apart from me. and everybody who picks the command stand up. I'm not sure imperial livery is correct, but then I'm not that fussed. I like it and until somebody shows me all the drummers jackets from this composite unit, its staying green! I have made...

Tucker Ray, Our Little Fighting Tiger. The story of Tucker Ray, a 27-weeker with many diagnoses, and his baby brother, Easton John, a 34 weeker aka big brother's shadow. Here I post about the challenges and joys of working full time, caring for two rambunctious boys with my husband, and leaning on God for wisdom in the midst of the chaos. Tuesday, April 15, 2014. the little fights
Are the ones that make the biggest difference. It is easy to miss things when reading the Bible, especially when Jesus comes into play. Not only are His parables both simple and complex, revealing and obscuring, but even the shortest pericopes about His words or actions operate on so many levels. So too the stories we are given as background. Take Mark 2:1-12. We are presented with a beautiful story about the faithfulness (and faith! This is an easy take away from this story. It seems that a lot of the i...
