adventures in building a home

Adventures in building a home. Stories from a family (that might be crazy and) who wanted to rebuild the home that Grandpa built in Julian. Monday, April 25, 2011. Wow- it's been almost a year since I updated the blog! I guess we've been enjoying the house more than telling everyone about it. ;). And it has been fun. We had an open house on Memorial Day weekend, celebrating the house being finished, and lots of friends (most of whom had been a part of the building process! There are lots of little projec...

adventures in building a home: October 2009

Adventures in building a home. Stories from a family (that might be crazy and) who wanted to rebuild the home that Grandpa built in Julian. Saturday, October 24, 2009. So, not really meaning to work on costume possibilities for Halloween, I discovered a great way to turn your hair gray: cut lots of granite on a wet saw. Be sure the water sprays your head. Don't rinse, repeat. Mom took this pic of Matt and I at the end of the day, as we ate a feast at Nona's house. Nona supervised, cleaned and read. And h...

Adventures in building a home. Stories from a family (that might be crazy and) who wanted to rebuild the home that Grandpa built in Julian. Sunday, May 09, 2010. Yesterday was a big and beautiful day. It seemed really special that on Mother's Day weekend, and on Nona and Grandpa's wedding anniversary we were finally able to move furniture into the house. With insurance money were stored. It was a tight fit, but with all the cars and trucks pictured here full, we were able to get everything up the hill.

Adventures in building a home. Stories from a family (that might be crazy and) who wanted to rebuild the home that Grandpa built in Julian. Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Matt and Phil have been working hard over the last couple of days, making good progress on the house! See, it wore them out:. Matt's been installing flooring on the staircase, making it all look quite lovely. Phil's been installing doors and trim and things. Now, nearly all the trim is in place in the house! Mom tacked a herculean challeng...

holy trouble: eating together

http://holytrouble.blogspot.com/2009/10/eating-together.html

Monday, October 12, 2009. The meetings continue, but with some significant breaks; yesterday (Sunday) we passed time in worship, some tourism and (most significantly, perhaps) eating together. And, it seems to me, it has made us all friendlier with one another in our meetings—funny how good table fellowship changes us. Table fellowship is the central wisdom of the xn church, is it not? Of course, wine and dancing help a whole lot too! More of that, please! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thats what I...

holy trouble: On the Camino Santiago, Day 3: Palais de Rei to Arzua

http://holytrouble.blogspot.com/2010/11/on-camino-santiago-day-3-palais-de-rei.html

Friday, November 12, 2010. On the Camino Santiago, Day 3: Palais de Rei to Arzua. One of the delights of the Camino is how beautiful this part of the journey is: so often, we were walking through tunnels in the trees, shaded and enchanted by them. In the morning, we walked through trails made mysterious by misty fog; later we were especially grateful for the shade lent by the trees. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Random Silliness: Doing a New Thing

http://leasrandomsilliness.blogspot.com/2014/08/doing-new-thing.html

You have been warned. Sunday, August 31, 2014. Doing a New Thing. Well- a new old thing. Thinking I might have to revive this old spot in an effort to help myself process all the new things happening in my life. I imagine there'll he a post about my dad at some point- maybe not soon. I expect mostly posts about seminary things. Learning things. New people. New things. Hopefully mostly good things, but there'll be some uncomfortable and frustrating things too, I'm sure. I hope you'll walk with me.

holy trouble: On the Camino Santiago, Day 5: Monte de Gozo to Santiago

http://holytrouble.blogspot.com/2010/11/on-camino-santiago-day-5-monte-de-gozo.html

Friday, November 12, 2010. On the Camino Santiago, Day 5: Monte de Gozo to Santiago. Our final morning's walk felt like a breeze, as we wound our way down into the city. It felt a little funny to be in the midst of a city again- with traffic and traffic lights and lots more concrete. As we got the plaza in front of the cathedral, it felt wonderful to look up at the intricate facade, and to imagine ourselves in the same place as so many generations of pilgrims before us. The gigantic incensor in Santiago'...

Random Silliness: Random, but not silly at all...

http://leasrandomsilliness.blogspot.com/2010/11/random-but-not-silly-at-all.html

You have been warned. Monday, November 8, 2010. Random, but not silly at all. Very early in the morning on September 12th, I wrote this poem. It was one of those nights that you scream into your pillow for no real reason, other than the fact that your life has suddenly, just now, become overwhelming and you have no idea why. I really had no idea why. Nothing was different from normal. It was just a passing moment, and nothing more. But it was. On September 12th, I had no idea what pain was.

Random Silliness: Just a thought

http://leasrandomsilliness.blogspot.com/2011/09/just-thought.html

You have been warned. Wednesday, September 21, 2011. I love the Bible. I believe it is the 100% true, inspired, revealed word of God. But, I also love science, so it REALLY UPSETS ME WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO USE IT AS A SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENT! I also believe that faith and reason are not. Mutually exclusive. I know there are some things about God that are mysteries and always will be, but I hope to understand, with my brain. All the stuff I believe that can. Be dealt with by a rational mind.). In my world, the pl...
