Little Hen Designs: Nursery: Phase One

http://littlehendesigns.blogspot.com/2009/02/nursery-phase.html

Sunday, 8 February 2009. We recently moved into a new home, and I immediately went to work on the nursery. It's coming along nicely! There is a bookshelf project waiting in the wings and I have to figure out what to do with the other side of the room, but I'm rather pleased with my progress! I think my little one likes it, too! Saturday, 31 January 2009. Dining Room on a Dime". The Thrifty Living Room". Bedroom on a Budget". I am so sad to learn that my absolute favorite decorating magazine, Domino. Will be closing its doors in March. Every month I look forward to curling up with the latest issue and finding inspiration for my next decorating project. I don't think another publication will quite be able to take its place, and my only solace is that I have saved many issues and clippings in my files. Thank you, Domino. You never...

Little Hen Designs: Everything Amy

http://littlehendesigns.blogspot.com/2009/02/everything-amy.html

Sunday, 1 February 2009. I took a spontaneous trip to the fabric store yesterday hoping to stumble upon something fabulous and walked away with a lovely turquoise damask print and the Spring 2009 edition of Better Homes and Gardens Creative Home. I was so excited to read the Amy Butler. The above fabrics are from her Midwest Modern 2. Line, and the images are of her design studio, which I find to be absolutely beautiful. Makes me think I should spiff up my work space! Images from amybutlerdesign.com.

Fruitcake | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2009/12/fruitcake.html

Monday, December 21, 2009. The really good chock-full-of-fruits-and-nuts kind of fruitcakes cost a fortune in shops. I love those with minimal flour but simply bursting with aged sultanas. My main gripe is that most fruitcakes sold out there are so much more flour than fruit that naming them fruitcakes is in itself a misnomer. Truly, may it herald a year of fruitfulness in 2010! 200 gm unsalted butter. 80 gm light brown sugar. 80 gm dark brown sugar. Zest (outer yellow skin) of one lemon. 188; tsp salt.

Chinese Glutinous Rice | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2010/05/chinese-glutinous-rice.html

Sunday, May 30, 2010. This is my second time cooking this dish. My family loved it so much the first time (yes, even those fussy tastebuds gave their approval ☺), they gave me the confidence to whip it up again. This recipe calls for white rice to be mixed with glutinous rice. Resulting in a concoction with a softer bite that also does not give rise to a ‘bloated feeling’ after consumption – most welcomed by older folks who are prone to indigestion. And garnish with pork/chicken floss. 189; cup white rice.

Pineapple Tarts | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2010/01/pineapple-tarts.html

Sunday, January 10, 2010. Two of my must-have Chinese New Year. Goodies are open-faced pineapple tarts. And love letters. For as far back as I can remember, I have been getting my fix from the same stalls because so many have failed the test of my taste buds :). We love the homemade pineapple tarts and will be making more batches. 450 gm plain flour. 50 gm milk powder. 1 egg, lightly beaten. 2 tbsp iced water. A pinch of salt. A few drops yellow colouring (optional). Gently squeeze out some juice). 3 Rub...

Crispy Pork Belly | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2010/12/crispy-pork-belly.html

Saturday, December 25, 2010. One of the most common dish at Christmas is the turkey but being in a Chinese family, it was never our tradition to celebrate Christmas with a turkey. And so tasked with a Christmas dinner to be prepared with the elder generation as guests, I decided to skip that celebrated bird altogether and go for a roast dish that is more Asian in nature and hopefully more palatable for my guests. And was I glad to have made that decision. The Roast Pork Belly. Crispy Roast Pork Belly.

Lemon Drizzle Cake | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2010/06/lemon-drizzle-cake.html

Tuesday, June 1, 2010. I love the tangy perk-me-up smell and taste of lemony cakes. I still remember the very first time I tried a lemon cake with poppy seeds. At a local bakery. I loved it so much that I was devastated when they retired the recipe. Try I did, to find another bakery offering that same kind of delicious, tastebud tingling orange/lemon cakes, but I was sorely disappointed. So imagine my excitement when I came across this recipe in The Sunday Times. 200 gm castor sugar. 150 gm plain flour.

Curry Puff | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2009/10/curry-puff.html

Saturday, October 31, 2009. One lazy afternoon, Hubby made a request for some homemade curry puffs and that started the hunt for a recipe easy enough for me to follow. Everyone agreed that the pastry was fantastic but the filling was not salty enough and that was when I realized I had forgotten to add the salt! Nevertheless, my dear supportive family and neighbours finished off all 23 curry puffs that night. K, that affirmation of yours made my day :). 1 big onion, chopped into small pieces. 5 Add curry ...

Lemon Cheesecake | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2009/10/lemon-cheesecake.html

Thursday, October 8, 2009. It has been a long while since I last made a cheesecake and to coincide with Hubby’s home-coming from a business trip, I tried out this recipe. I had previously made a non-bake version so this time, I wanted to try one that requires some baking time in the oven. However, lest I got too trigger-happy, I was warned not to over-mix for cheesecakes. Even with this bit of information in mind, I think I must have over-mixed. Towards the end of the baking period, a small crack sta...

Chocolate Cornflake Treats | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2009/03/chocolate-cornflake-treats.html

Monday, March 23, 2009. When my ex-maid left, I took the opportunity to clean out my kitchen cabinets. There was a stack of mini paper cake cups stashed all the way to the back of the cupboard. That was 3 months ago and I still had not used them. Since I just bought a new box of corn flakes, I might as well put those paper cake cups to use. Big Buddy loves a snack when he wakes from his afternoon naps and this will be something fun and crunchy for him. 100 gm plain Corn Flakes, lightly crushed. Should I ...

Roasted Lemongrass Chicken & Grilled Honey Chicken | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2009/03/roasted-lemongrass-chicken-grilled.html

Roasted Lemongrass Chicken and Grilled Honey Chicken. Wednesday, March 18, 2009. My sister-in-law shared an interesting recipe for cooking chicken on her blog. And I thought it might be fun to try it at home. I did not have fish sauce. At home and decided that it was too bothersome to warrant a special trip to the supermarket just for that, so I chose to omit it. Also I tried out this recipe with a toaster-oven instead. Will go down well with Big Buddy and decided to play it safe. 2 tbsp cooking oil.

Avocado Milkshake | Live With A Passion

http://livewithapassion.blogspot.com/2009/03/avocado-milkshake.html

Tuesday, March 3, 2009. I first discovered the goodness. When I began introducing solids. To Big Buddy. Excited about it, I spooned some freshly scrapped avocado onto Hubby’s serving of ice-cream. His reaction to the taste of avocado could easily be read off his face and he never asked for it again. 500 ml of fresh milk. 1 Cut the avocado into half. Remove seed and scoop out the flesh. 2 Blend avocado with gula melaka syrup and fresh milk. Reference : Moms4Moms Forum. Posted by Mommy With Passion. You da...
