Greenman's Hearth & Homestead: The Flora
http://greenmanshearth.blogspot.com/p/the-flora.html
Greenmans Hearth and Homestead. A little hobby farm with big dreams. The Path So Far. I planted a few Raspberry bushes, but they seem to be competing with a plant that is very similar. Not certain what it is though. Some sort of Blackberry, very aggressive they are everywhere. In my tiny greenhouse (it's 2' x 6') I have 4 tomato plants, rosemary, lemon thyme and dill. Outside I have a basil plant but it's not faring so well. I know, not much but it is all I have for now. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Greenman's Hearth & Homestead: December 2013
http://greenmanshearth.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Greenmans Hearth and Homestead. A little hobby farm with big dreams. The Path So Far. Monday, 23 December 2013. We had a wonderful time meeting some new neighbors who have move to the area from Wales on the Winter Solstice. It was a Yule potluck, and fire. Of course Mother Nature always has her own plans and it it has been raining so much that the fire didn't cooperate. Nothing lost though as we ate, drank and celebrated indoors. How to pasture poultry without a chicken tractor. After some serious googling, I came across Premier 1 Supplies and PountryNet. The chickens are happy, we should be back to getting healthy eggs, and hopefully we won't have any more problems with our neighbors. Time to go check the yogurt and see if I can go to bed yet! Life in the Prairie Box: November 2011
http://prairiebox.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Modern homesteading: Empowering or enslaving? My mother had a different story. As a single parent, she had to work full-time. But she still found time to cook from scratch, and she taught me that life is more about experiences than material trappings. All of my aunts are crafty, and they all cook. Do I feel enslaved by my efforts to be more self-sufficient? But I do feel like feminism has seriously backfired in some ways. Women now seem to feel like they should. Won't you be bored? Not a chance. I'd ...

Almost meal planning: progress report. Yeesh, I'm talkative lately. I feel like there are so many things bouncing around in my head, and I just want to post to get them all out in some sort of coherent way. And if I can unload the little stuff, maybe there will be more room to mull over the big stuff. I mean, there can only be so much room inside your head, yah? Last week. Shayne and Ethan also had dinner at home every day. Major accomplishment, at least in my little world! So what am I doing differently?

CONCRETE to CHICKENS: Deer Hunting Starts
http://concrete2chickens.blogspot.com/2013/10/deer-hunting-starts.html
Saturday, October 19, 2013. There is an advantage to using a bow, and in Virginia that includes crossbows. The season for bows is the first phase of deer season. Bowhunters get a full four weeks head start before muzzleloader season. That means all the deer are still out and about in the mornings and evenings before they start getting spooked by the shooting and go nocturnal. On a Saturday morning? Oldest Son put a new arrow in his bow in case we came upon the wounded deer. While we were tracking the...

CONCRETE to CHICKENS: October 2012
http://concrete2chickens.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 22, 2012. One of the benefits of living on the east coast, and Virginia in particular, is that you are surrounded by history. Everywhere you look, there are signs commemorating various events and landmarks that are important to our nation's history. Our county got a special treat at the end of September when Dahlgren's Raid was re-enacted throughout our county. For those of you who have never heard of Dahlgren's Raid, here is a primer. It was run over the weekend. They also rolled out a c...
