Little Stitches of Joy

Little Stitches of Joy. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Why I hate the market #3. Here is another reason I hate going to the market, illustrated for comedic value. At some point in my market run, I'll come across this situation:. I want something on the shelf, but someone else is in the way. They aren't moving, they are moseying about and wasting time, perhaps even texting, but all DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE THING I WANT TO BUY. So, I'll stand there awkwardly, panic rising, as I just wait. Okay, these were lies.

Little Stitches of Joy: Trying New Antidepressants: A Beginner's Observations

http://www.littlestitchesofjoy.blogspot.com/2015/01/trying-new-antidepressants.html

Little Stitches of Joy. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Trying New Antidepressants: A Beginner's Observations. Having depression and anxiety, I have tried a plethora of different antidepressant medications. Actually, I am still trying to find one that is "just right" for me. I suppose I may be a bit physically sensitive to antidepressants, and thus I have had a hard time finding any I can tolerate for more than a few days. Other times, they make me nauseous. Little Stitches of Joy: Anxiety, Guilt, Avoidance

http://www.littlestitchesofjoy.blogspot.com/2015/02/anxiety-guilt-avoidance.html

Little Stitches of Joy. Sunday, February 22, 2015. Anxiety, Guilt, Avoidance. So normally, I am happy posting away at my blog in a sea of pillows and warm blankets. This is the normal habitat of a blogger. Lately though, I have been a bit busy, and have not had a chance to post. I totally did all these things. Okay, these were lies. I have fallen into a cycle that I fall into frequently that nearly defeats me every time:. Anxiety, Guilt, Avoidance. Thus, the cycle begins. And take my medicine. And though...

Little Stitches of Joy: The ENEMY

http://www.littlestitchesofjoy.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-enemy.html

Little Stitches of Joy. Monday, January 12, 2015. I was out and about today, and stopped at a gas station for some lunch. at this particular gas station, they have a "Made To Order" station, where you can use a touch screen and basically order anything you want, or don't want on your sandwich. I ordered my usual vegetarian sub sandwich, and ate it in my car, like the socially awkward person I am. But then, I noticed my sandwich tasted. off. There was something I did not order in there. So, here we are.

Ruth Notes: April 2015

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 27, 2015. The Graham Cracker- Relic of the First Food Revolution. If you're like me, you thought vegetarianism in the U.S. started with the 1960's counterculture, or, at least, in the health food movement of the '70's. It actually began with a nineteenth century Presbyterian minister named Sylvester Graham. He hailed from Connecticut, and he had some. Mighty powerful convictions about food that seem nothing less than prescient today. Rev Graham, July 5, 1794 – September 11, 1851. About this...

Ruth Notes: August 2015

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 24, 2015. Everybody knows by now that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day for good health. Water is super great for us, as it helps us absorb nutrients, cushion our bones, and move waste out of the body, among many other benefits. The trouble is, staying hydrated can be a pain. When I read ". Drink 8 glasses of water a day," all I see is those glasses of water lined up in a row and me thinking, "I can't possibly drink all that in one day.". The New York Times:. Personally, I think sta...

Ruth Notes: June 2015

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 20, 2015. Here's to all the dads, who are hopefully getting to do whatever they want on their special day- they deserve it! I was lucky to have a dad who always took time for me, teaching me the important things in life: how to drive a stick shift, how to make pancakes, and to appreciate nature, books, and Woody Allen movies. He's still going strong at 89, probably due to his (semi-serious) motto, everything in moderation. Love you, Dad. Hello, ladies . Friday, June 19, 2015. Especially if...

Ruth Notes: Mom's Easy Party Punch

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015/07/moms-easy-party-punch.html

Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Mom's Easy Party Punch. Does anyone make punch for parties anymore? It's too bad if they don't, 'cause back in the day, no party was quite complete without it. I have rewritten the steps and ingredients below, adding all the details I could think of, because Mom didn't write it down for anyone but herself, I don't think. She knew what she was doing. The rest of us may need a little help. 1 package (0.13 oz.) cherry Kool Aid. 1 package (0.13 oz.) raspberry Kool Aid. Mix both Kool...

Ruth Notes: Waste Not: "Just Eat It," the Documentary

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015/07/waste-not-just-eat-it-documentary.html

Sunday, July 12, 2015. Waste Not: "Just Eat It," the Documentary. Back in January, 2013, I made two New Years Resolutions. The first was to stop wasting so much food; the second was stop using so much plastic. I did fairly well on the first, though it interfered a bit with the second. Being more on top of food storage meant a certain investment in Tupperware-like plastic containers. Hm. Anyway, little did I know at the time that my personal battle against wasting food was a much larger issue. And it's no...

Ruth Notes: New Rules: the FDA Gets Serious About Sugar

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015/07/new-rules-fda-gets-serious-about-sugar.html

Thursday, July 30, 2015. New Rules: the FDA Gets Serious About Sugar. Last time, I posted the recipe for my mom's holiday punch. I've felt a little guilty about it. After all, we're trying not. To have things like punch, right? Loaded with sugar and artificial flavorings and colors, it's a little out of keeping with that healthy lifestyle one works so hard to achieve. The thing is, though, it is a treat. This month (July, 2015), the Food and Drug Administration has issued a supplemental proposed rule.

Saturday, January 31, 2015. The benefits of exercise can't be overstated, though not for the reasons you might expect. Too often exercise, or lack thereof, is blamed for our obesity epidemic. "Those Americans, so fat- all they do is sit around all day! Or words to that effect. So, can. Exercise fix the problem? Let's imagine we have just eaten a Snickers bar (remember, this is for science). Let's take a look at our favorite calorie counting website CalorieKing.com. Ruth Notes: May 2015

http://ruthnotes.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 11, 2015. Happy International Nurses Day! For International Nurses' Day. Let's highlight an area of nursing that is not often recognized- school nursing! Though not quite as flamboyant or dramatic as ER or ICU nursing (usually), it's not as simple as passing out Band-aids or comforting tummy aches, either. School nursing in fact provides a wide scope of direct service to school children and staff, which indirectly affects the health of the community and families of those schools. The role of ...
