http://liturgicalnerds.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 27, 2009. Sex, Ordination, and Covenants. Over at The Huffington Post, regular columnist Rev. Debra Haffner is writing about the commitment to celibacy and chastity for ordained clergypersons. I encourage you to read the entire article. The most interesting statement is where Rev. Haffner asserts that. Make sense to ask [ordained, single clergy] to give up adult sexual lives outside of the congregation. Reviewed by Josh here. Liturgical Nerds: Experiencing Jesus
http://liturgicalnerds.blogspot.com/2009/08/experiencing-jesus.html
Sunday, August 23, 2009. The experience of Jesus in Christian worship and discipleship is not primarily 'spiritual'- whatever that means- but sensory, corporeal, bodily, tangible, enfleshed, incarnate, and immediate. An overemphasis on so-called spiritual or heavenly aspects eviscerates the power and import of faith. It turns us inward. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Monday, June 29, 2009. Where Does God Happen? At the top of the list of things Josh wrestles with in his own life is my uneasiness within myself as I relate to other people. Whether it's because I was raised in a loving-yet-high-expectation environment, mocked throughout my school years for my nerdiness (evidence of which has always been in abundance! Or my own conviction within myself that I have a major role to play in this world.I can't help but be anxious about how I relate to others. Of the Sayings,...

The Expatriate Minister: "No Simple Language"

Monday, June 22, 2009. Flood" may have been the most popular song on the album, with its heavy alternative feel- and it's probably one of the biggest reasons for Jars' crossover appeal- but the one that remains my favorite is "Love Song for a Savior.". Towards the beginning of the song, it tells us that "she loves the daisies and the roses/no simple language/someday she'll understand/the meaning of it all.". Doesn't good poetry do that for us?
