SweetPotatoClaire: only so much
http://sweetpotatoclaire.blogspot.com/2012/01/only-so-much.html
A chronicle of our days and half-time efforts at (sub)urban homesteading, musings on parenting, and a whole lot of the mundane, humdrum bits. I've been thinking a bit lately about where the line is that separates the amount of outside inspiration that supports and enhances your family/home/ real. Life and the amount that detracts from it. I'm thinking the answer is fairly fluid, something that shifts and changes depending on what our life is like at the time, and not in fact a definitive line. Games/movi...

The Backyard Homesteader: this week
http://backyardhomesteader.blogspot.com/2010/10/this-week.html
Friday, October 15, 2010. This week has slipped by much quicker than I wanted. It was a full week. A good week. A visit-from-Molly week. Rather than trying to go back and write individual posts about all of the fun we had, I'll just give the highlights. I have been wanting to cut my hair short since before River was born, but promised myself that I wouldn't until I fit into my favorite jeans again. Here are the jeans and here is the new hairdo. I love it. It looks like they had a good time. In all of my ...

SweetPotatoClaire: 33 years, 33 things
http://sweetpotatoclaire.blogspot.com/2013/09/33-years-33-things.html
A chronicle of our days and half-time efforts at (sub)urban homesteading, musings on parenting, and a whole lot of the mundane, humdrum bits. 33 years, 33 things. And so here we go, in no particular order things for which I am most grateful. The abundance of firewood in the wood shed and driveway, which will warm our home and our bodies well in the upcoming (hopefully cold and snowy) winter. The man who splits it all, for so many things. Nights spent sitting around the fire pit with my people. Bag of woo...

The Backyard Homesteader: March 2010
http://backyardhomesteader.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 28, 2010. Liam is all-boy, which lately means he has been going through a lot of band-aids. Luckily, he really likes them, so getting him to allow us to clean and bandage his wounds isn't that big of a deal. Tonight, he tripped and fell on a glass jar he was carrying. It shattered across the kitchen and sliced the palm of his hand. There was a lot of blood. There were several unanswered panicked calls to my mom, and then to Crystal (for the wisdom of her EMT hubby). A pain in the neck.

The Backyard Homesteader: February 2010
http://backyardhomesteader.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 28, 2010. Liam is definitely his father's son. Just the mention of taking him to the doctor seems to have been enough motivation for him to get well. He woke up this morning chipper and bouncy as normal. And no fever. He even ate a whole bowl of oatmeal and has been asking for extra snacks all morning. It seems that his immune system has worked it all out. This Mama sighs with relief. The poor little guy took a 4 1/2 hour nap Friday afternoon. That's when I knew something was coming.

The Backyard Homesteader: deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
http://backyardhomesteader.blogspot.com/2010/10/deep-greens-and-blues-are-colors-i.html
Thursday, October 7, 2010. Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose. River's wardrobe is full of Liam-hand-me-downs, which means some of the stuff is badly stained. For the most part, stains don't bother me. They are like the living room that isn't too pristine and put together: they say. But these long-sleeved onesies were gross. Instead of tossing them, I remade them with two packets of Rit dye and a handful of rubber bands. Following the easy dye instructions on MADE,. October 8, 2010 at 5:11 AM.
