Backyard Farming: August 2013
http://backyardfarming.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 15, 2013. Cool as a Lemon Cucumber. Cucumbers seem to be one of those vegetables that always do well for us. In the past we have grown many varieties with success. This year we might have found a new front runner for coolest cucumber in the garden. Lemon cucumbers with crookneck squash. They are very prolific. I think we are getting more cucumbers from the lemon cucumber than the double yield. Our kids like to eat them like apples so they are eating more of them. Links to this post.

http://backyardfarming.blogspot.com/2013/12/homesteading-and-self-reliance-is-one.html
Wednesday, December 4, 2013. 8211; Many new chicken owners took the plunge solely to reap the benefits of having a steady supply of fresh eggs. What often comes as a surprise is just how many eggs you can actually collect. If you want a reliable stream of fresh, additive-free eggs, keeping chickens is a wise move, indeed. 8211; While some families may not relish the idea of eating their pets, those who do raise chickens for meat are able to enjoy fresh protein that has not been contaminated by antibiotic...

Backyard Farming: Backyard Chickens 101: Part One
http://backyardfarming.blogspot.com/2009/02/backyard-chickens-101-part-one.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Backyard Chickens 101: Part One. Since it's spring time and many of us will be getting new chickens we felt like it was time for a chicken 101. First off, are they noisy? I imagined keeping chickens would be something akin to the geese at the park and that there was no way my neighbors wouldn't complain. I was surprised to find that with the exception of the roosters(male chickens) these birds are pretty quiet. Definitely quieter than my neighbor's dogs! What about the smell?

Backyard Farming: Blog visit: Maple Hill 101
http://backyardfarming.blogspot.com/2015/08/blog-visit-maple-hill-101.html
Friday, August 7, 2015. Blog visit: Maple Hill 101. Hop on over today to Maple Hill 101. Today and read Daisy's fascinating summer series, Seed to Table. Each Friday she highlights a different garden crop with pointers for growing it yourself, and recipes to land it in your tummy. Today's plant is pineapple. Although I live in wintry snowy mountains, I think I'll try her method of planting a pineapple crown and see how long it lasts as a houseplant. Fascinating! Have a great day in the garden. Two ways t...
