Living @ 970: What You Need

http://livingat970.blogspot.com/2009/08/what-you-need.html

Except for the fact that the drill isn't in the picture, this is a pretty good collection of the stuff you will need to install two new 220 volt receptacles at my house. That's what I did today. The stuff slowly assembled on top of my washing machine while I worked. Given that there weren't any major hiccups in the installation of the new receptacles, I was really shocked how long it took and how hard it was. What I thought would only be a little bit of work took me four hours. How can that be? From our ...

Living @ 970: Lovely Power Tools

http://livingat970.blogspot.com/2009/03/lovely-power-tools.html

Yesterday Barb and I went to the hardware store, and $50 later I'm pretty sure I have enough trim for my new closet. Last night in-town family met at Joe's. Midway through an evening of talking and time-spending in advance of Barb's departure, Joe and I went to play with one of his new power tools. Here's what I tried out for the first time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You are woman hear you roar! 13 March, 2009 00:30. Jobs like that are just so mcuh more fun with the right tools, don't you think?

Living @ 970: Helping Out

http://livingat970.blogspot.com/2009/08/helping-out.html

The girls recently helped Matthew wash the car. It was evening and they were already wearing their pajamas which I guess made it all even more fun for them. An interesting idea how to make an ordinary task extra-ordinary. 23 August, 2009 10:48. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Currently blogging at hello961.

Living @ 970: Feed Me

http://livingat970.blogspot.com/2009/08/feed-me.html

Last weekend, my cousin Katherine helped us find the carnivorous plants at the Botanical Garden. I've probably walked past these little predetors a dozen or more times and failed to notice them. Or maybe I did notice them and then I forgot that I had? The trouble with the Botanical Garden (and I'm not entirely sure such a thing can even be called 'trouble') is that you can't possibly notice everything. There's simply too much for that. It's an unimaginable luxury, really. We had a lovely time.

Living @ 970: Flu Shots

http://livingat970.blogspot.com/2009/09/flu-shots.html

Last night, on a lark, we all went out for flu shots. This is the first year we've done this and since my kids have never had this kind of immunization they'll have to go back for boosters in a few weeks. The girls were very tough in there. No crying at all. But tears or not, we still would have bought ice cream afterward. It's a tradition, practically. It has really been odd for you. Mine hasnt hurt at all, and the girls dont seem to have any issues. 11 September, 2009 11:53. 11 September, 2009 12:48.

Impart Art - Daily: February 2007

http://householddaily.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Impart Art - Daily. In case you've forgotten (or never saw) the other flag that has been featured here, go ahead and click. Photographic silkscreen/vinyl, 66 x 93 inches. Discuss, if you wish. I am frankly too busy to deal with this blog right now, so yes, that's all I'm doing today. Visual representations of otherwise texty/numbery data are a big deal in certain fields. Some of these are artsy, and others aren’t. Take my post. And my husband uses graphs, charts, and other visual helps to plan projects a...

http://householddaily.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Impart Art - Daily. How old am I? As you all ought to know, I have two charming kids, and to protect the innocent, we'll call the oldest child star and the youngest dandelion. On frequent occasion, my interest in art gets taken out on them. It happened again not long ago. Matthew showed me a link to a neat little webpage. Readers of character will resist the urge to cheat). What I did last night. It started with these doors. Because although I can find fun patterns in it, I doubt I could design this or s...

Impart Art - Daily: A Whole Lot of Nothing

http://householddaily.blogspot.com/2007/07/whole-lot-of-nothing.html

Impart Art - Daily. A Whole Lot of Nothing. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, that's what you've been reading here for nearly three months. What's that? Oh yes. You're right. Four. I'm reading lots. But then, I've blogged about that. And I'm writing my Thesis. Oh, yes indeed I am. And I'm mommying. I mommy better than I do any of the rest of those things. AND . . . I've taken advantage of the summer arts festival in Boone, NC. Not impressed? Well then, I have two words for you. 20 July, 2007 14:20.

Impart Art - Daily: Me Talk Pretty One Day

http://householddaily.blogspot.com/2007/06/me-talk-pretty-one-day.html

Impart Art - Daily. Me Talk Pretty One Day. I certainly hope you've noticed a pattern by now. This is the third installment of 'art stuff in books not really about art', and today it'll be from David Sedaris, around page 51. This quote is drawn from the chapter Twelve Moments in the Life of the Artist. And this moment is number Nine in which David has become a performance-conceptual-happenings artist. 18 June, 2007 03:14. 18 June, 2007 12:55. Suz, I'm so glad you're reading it. So very funny. Impart Art - Daily. The Birthday that Wasn't. So, I got out my wrapping paper and covered up the labels. I did a nice job too, see? I've got all 25 of them ready (oh, I don't think there are that many kids in her class, but I figured better too many than too few) and waiting. Just as soon as the "mood on the ground" stabilizes and people go back to their day-in day-out, Star will have a great class party. This weekend of course, there will be two parties. Dandelion on Saturday, Star on Sunday. Appearance...

Impart Art - Daily: December 2006

http://householddaily.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Impart Art - Daily. Merry Christmas . . . And a happy New Year. We'll see you then. Better than the Taj Mahal. On our way out of Cairo today, we stopped by the Tombs of Mohammad Ali's Family, which we were told by our (not exaggerating at all) fantastic taxi driver, were worth 950 million dollars. Mohammad Ali was the first Ottoman emperor of Egypt, who came to power in 1811. Apparently they kept slaves and had them killed off to be buried with them. Often in the sketch of a portrait, the invisible lines...

Impart Art - Daily: May 2007

http://householddaily.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Impart Art - Daily. Hello St. Louis. We're back. Not much art to blog about yet, but there will be eventually. Bye Bye, Beirut. As if there haven't been enough of those already. There have been. No, I'm not finished yet. Why? Don't Jump on the Art. One of our favorite public parks in Beirut has a bit of a sculpture garden along its southern ridge. We were there recently and the girls were doing their thing. I caught Dandelion mid-jump! What else are they up to now? No idea. Maybe if I clear away some...

This is the blog I wrote the first time we lived in Beirut (2004-2007). Things blew up, people died, bombs were dropped, the government nearly collapsed, and I blogged about art.
