Growing Up in Faith: October 2010
http://growingupinfaith.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Growing Up in Faith. Saturday, October 30, 2010. I've always loved the fall, so this perspective came as a surprise to me. Growing up on a farm, the fall was a time of hard work, harvest bounty, and then in the late fall, the preparation for a time of lying fallow, of having a well-deserved rest. There was nothing sad about any of that. This is a time of culmination and celebration of the whole year's work! Leaves don't drop, (they just let go). Leaves don't drop, they just let go,. Growing Up in Faith. Sunday, November 7, 2010. The headline caught my eyes, as it undoubtedly intended. After all, it came from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, often ranked the best business school for marketing in the United States. Marketing knows about catching our eyes. The research behind the Kellogg Insight. Was this why we had so many guests in church last Sunday before the election? 8220;This research holds important implications for our understanding of the formation...

Growing Up in Faith: June 2010
http://growingupinfaith.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Growing Up in Faith. Saturday, June 5, 2010. The farthest Thunder that I heard. Was nearer than the Sky. And rumbles still, though torrid Noons. Have lain their missiles by –. The Lightning that preceded it. Struck no one but myself –. But I would not exchange the Bolt. For all the rest of Life –. The Happy may repay,. But not the obligation. To Electricity –. It founds the Homes and decks the Days. And every clamor bright. Is but the gleam concomitant. Of that waylaying Light –. A Crash without a Sound,.

Growing Up in Faith. Saturday, November 20, 2010. Lectio Divina with Color Doodles. I have been beginning to prepare for a study about the incarnated Christian, and bought some new books this past week, including. Last night I spent some time in contemplative doodling. Here are some samples:. I don't know whether these were prayers as as we usually think of prayer, but they do seem to be the visual version of " sighs and groans too deep for words. Published by Liturgical Training Publications. Delight is...

Growing Up in Faith: December 2010

Growing Up in Faith. Saturday, December 18, 2010. Looking for the Prince of Peace. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6. And I can't think of that verse without hearing this chorus from Handel's Messiah. Following an editorial about President Obama's remarks about Afghanistan. In the Boston area, there was only this ar...

Growing Up in Faith: January 2010
http://growingupinfaith.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Growing Up in Faith. Friday, January 29, 2010. From the Gates of Heaven alternative services,. Quoted on the CD, Life's A Lesson. Is wonderful background, but it is this quote that really caught my attention. What am I becoming? What is written on my face? What do I worship? Worship comes from the Old English root of "worth,". So what do I find worthy of my love and attention? That is, bursts of relatively high intensity exercise that spark your fat burning and ignite your energy levels. By Leslie Sanson...

Growing Up in Faith: February 2010
http://growingupinfaith.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Growing Up in Faith. Saturday, February 27, 2010. A Place to Excel: Generosity. Now as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you—so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking. ( 2 Cor. 8:7, NRSV. Who do you know who excels in generosity? Isn't this an interesting progression outlined in the verse above? After you excel in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in enthusiasm, and in love, then. Would you define yourself as generous? In all...

Growing Up in Faith. Saturday, May 15, 2010. Even though the day be laden. When I realized that I hadn't posted here since March 24, I couldn't quite figure out why, so I went back through those dates in my emails and on my calendar. Since March 24,. Growing Up in Faith: Heaven: sleeping in, where scrabble never comes
http://growingupinfaith.blogspot.com/2010/12/heaven-sleeping-in-where-scrabble-never.html
Growing Up in Faith. Sunday, December 12, 2010. Heaven: sleeping in, where scrabble never comes. Then in a lovely piece of serendipity, I picked up Mending a Tattered Faith. And read this poem by Emily Dickinson. Where bells no more affright the morn –. Where scrabble never comes –. Where very nimble Gentlemen. Are forced to keep their rooms –. Where tired Children placid sleep. Thro' Centuries of noon. This place is Bliss – this town is Heaven –. Please, Pater, pretty soon! And view the Landscape o'er".
