The James River – Living Outside
http://livingoutside.org/blog/2015/03/07/the-james-river
April 27, 2015. The James River (340 Mile long River). The Jackson and Cowpasture Rivers converge in northern Botetourt County to form Virginia’s greatest river, the James River. These headwaters–called the Upper James–provide some of the finest canoeing and freshwater fishing available in Virginia. What a great adventure it would be to travel by boat the length of this wonderful river. Fishing opportunity by section:. Smallmouth bass (dominant game species). Blue catfish (best near Richmond).
Fishing for Striper at Kerr Reservoir – Living Outside
http://livingoutside.org/blog/category/fishing
Fishing for Striper at Kerr Reservoir. January 15, 2016. I prefer putting in at Staunton River State Park since it’s much less congested. You enter by the river and do some careful navigating the first 100 yards but it beats fighting the crowd in Clarksville. Of course if you’re staying for more than a few days Clarksville has more to do off the water when you’re not fishing. Latitude 36 35’54”, Longitude 78 17’57”. Lake Moomaw – Don’t pass this lake up – Living Outside
http://livingoutside.org/blog/2015/03/18/lake-moomaw-dont-pass-this-lake-up
Lake Moomaw Don’t pass this lake up. March 17, 2015. If you’re traveling to get to the lake you may also consider camping in one of George Washington National Forest campgrounds (which surround the 42 mile lake shoreline) like Bolar Mountain. Which is near Hot Springs, Va. There is also a camping spot that can only be reached by boat which is really nice. So when you’re considering fishing opportunities this year don’t forget Moomaw! Camping at Staunton River State Park – Living Outside
http://livingoutside.org/blog/category/camping
Camping at Staunton River State Park. Staunton river state park. May 11, 2015. In the movie Into the Wild the main character’s goal is to get to the wilderness where he can live life by himself. After an extended period of isolation he comes to this conclusion, happiness isn’t really happiness unless you have someone to share it with . Facebook Page Id is missing in Widget settings.

Living Outside: Outdoor Enthusiast Playground
http://jacksonbuchman.blogspot.com/2014/07/outdoor-enthusiast-playground.html
Sunday, July 27, 2014. Deep in the heart of Virginia’s Botetourt County is a secluded outdoor enthusiast playground called Arcadia. To most it’s just an exit off Interstate 81 with a gas station and little motel up on the hill. To those of us who know better it is a hidden gem in the National Forest. Three miles off the exit is the Jefferson National Forest and this small area known as Arcadia. Three bodies of water are represented here;. 8211; National Forest Owned. Fire pits and picnic tables. Sunday, June 1, 2014. Camping at Staunton River State Park. In the movie Into the Wild the main character’s goal is to get to the wilderness where he can live life by himself. After an extended period of isolation he comes to this conclusion, “happiness isn’t really happiness unless you have someone to share it with”. I have been to many of Virginia’s State Parks and very seldom have I been disappointed. The sites are spread out and there is plenty of peace even during their busiest days.
