On Life in St.Petersburg: December 2014 - On Life in St. Petersburg
http://lizinstpete.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
On Life in St.Petersburg. The journal of an American expat in Russia. Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Christmas Shopping with a 2 yr old. Why did I wait until Dec. 23rd to go shopping, you may ask? Well, Im not a very big shopper in general, but with David it is an all-day chore, and that gets tiresome. Last weeks shopping forays were focused on a wedding that took place Saturday. So that brings us to this week. As we were walking toward the shopping mall, I was noticing the sun breaking through and how it...

On Life in St.Petersburg. The journal of an American expat in Russia. Thursday, October 30, 2014. I rejoined the worship team. I mentioned the relationships. Another interesting factor is the size of the group. When a team is growing, we probably all think to ourselves at one moment or another, "Do I really need to be here? Or maybe, "Does he/she really need to be here? Tomorrow is just a "regular" day here.maybe with the exception of some parties. And worship night. Links to this post. I downloaded both...
Daytime Fire | On Life in St.Petersburg
http://lizinstpete.blogspot.com/2015/06/daytime-fire.html
On Life in St.Petersburg. The journal of an American expat in Russia. Saturday, June 27, 2015. One day recently I decided to take David for a walk while Andrei was cooking dinner. It was actually after 7pm, but pretty much felt like afternoon, with there still being plenty of daylight. I exchanged looks with a few other adults on the playground.was this really happening? Several minutes passed before I realized we weren't getting the whole picture. Of course. We were actually looking at the back. Of the ...

On Life in St.Petersburg. The journal of an American expat in Russia. Saturday, September 27, 2014. I've been mostly better for a few days and then I got these blisters on the corners of my mouth! I got into a fiction series this week ( first installment free on Kindle. Heh It addresses the issues of time management, and that got me thinking.how is it that we do so little "manual" labor these days, yet we still never have enough time? Where does the time go? And part of what gets me is that everything in...

On Life in St.Petersburg. The journal of an American expat in Russia. Saturday, August 1, 2015. Looking Back and a Heads-Up. I've got a pretty old printer. It works fine, just takes its time. So I thought it might be fun to crank out a blog post while each page prints. :) I think my printer probably has me beat at wpm, though. And now I'm printing it all out, and we leave in.less than 18 hours. Very exciting. So for that day we were more focused on celebrating and not doing anything else. I'm not bringin...

From Brownies to Borscht: How to Make a German Apple Pancake (Dutch Baby)
http://cookinginstpete.blogspot.com/2015/05/how-to-make-german-apple-pancake-dutch.html
From Brownies to Borscht. Comfort food recipes from an American in Russia. Sunday, May 31, 2015. How to Make a German Apple Pancake (Dutch Baby). I remember always getting so excited when my mom would make this for "brinner" for us to eat when she and my dad were going on a date. Not quite sweet enough to be dessert, but more special than just a pancake. A cast-iron pan works best! It tastes pretty eggy and filling, and is obviously great in the fall, during apple season! 1/2 c butter, divided. How to Ma...

From Brownies to Borscht. Comfort food recipes from an American in Russia. Friday, August 30, 2013. How to Make Tomato Zucchini Ragout. I was going to do a summer wrap-up, but a zucchini showed up in my refrigerator, so I decided to do one last stove-top meal! My dish was loosely based on this recipe. Parmesan cheese on top would be a nice addition! The instructions said to saute the bell pepper for a few minutes and simmer in the tomatoes/zucchini/etc. for 15 min. Ummm, try more like 30! From Brownies to Borscht. Comfort food recipes from an American in Russia. Thursday, November 21, 2013. How to Make Empress Chicken. This recipe is my go-to homemade/"take-out" Chinese recipe! Other than fried rice, of course. It is so simple I tend to bypass it, maybe because I'm usually looking for more of a challenge? Empress Chicken on Rice. The ingredients I almost always have on hand, and you could vary it in a number of ways-even just take the sauce and make up your own stir-fry. Links to this post.

From Brownies to Borscht. Comfort food recipes from an American in Russia. Monday, October 20, 2014. How to Create an Autumn Scent in Your Home. I think I've always had a sensitive nose, but particularly since my pregnancy 3 years ago I have a really hard time with strong odors.think migraines. :/. Our apartment doesn't have the best ventilation even with windows on 3 sides, and the kitchen is the worst! Stovetop "Apple Pie" Aroma. Apple parts (could be a core or a soft one you weren't going to eat).

From Brownies to Borscht. Comfort food recipes from an American in Russia. Friday, June 7, 2013. My favorite cooking methods by far involve the oven. I find it to be more forgiving, and I also like popping a dish in the oven and doing clean-up while it cooks. Then I get a ready meal and a clean kitchen (almost) at the same time. Here are the conditions:. No soups or stews* (my husband likes soup for lunch only and doesn't like stew). Must be doable without the help of the oven. Help me out here! The Pion...

A Young Girl's Journey to America Through Adoption and Her Day-to-Day Adventures - As Told By Her New Mother. Monday, July 27, 2009. Well, I’ve had my fourth ice-skating lesson and I believe that I may actually be improving! It’s as if my left side is afraid and my right side isn’t! My coach advised me the best way to even things up is to practice the bad side twice as much as the good side. We shall try that and see what progresses…. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Summer wanderings through Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Turkey. Sunday, July 25, 2010. The Coptic papyrology summer school at Strasbourg was FUN. Basically I hung out with a bunch of other Coptic nerds from Europe and the US. We listened to lectures about palaeography, Shenoute, bilingual archives, what have you—then we all went out for a big meal accompanied by many glasses of beer and wine. I even got my own swank room to stay in all week! Posted by Elizabeth D. Saturday, July 17, 2010. Well, the sun.).
