She obtained her BS in Secondary Education at the University of Cincinnati, and her MS in Psychology and Psy. D in Clinical Psychology at Nova University. She taught English, Speech and Theater before becoming a psychologist. Jean considered a career in theater but found that she liked eating on a regular basis far too much to pursue that line.
