Just another WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. Week 12 Blog : God. December 16, 2011. The journal article that I am writing about this week is about a study by Beauregard and Paquette (2006) who aimed to investigate whether remembering a mystical (from a Christian perspective ) experience had an impact on neural activity. it was found that when recalling these experiences, the participants showed significant behaviour in several parts of the brain. Just another WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Monthly Archives: October 2011. Do Criminals have morality? October 21, 2011. When an individual commits a crime, often these are breaking unwritten moral rules which many people follow. This could be stealing, unwarranted aggression or even murder. However what I want to know is; do they have any moral reasoning at all? Any other ideas for testing this concept or debating about it are welcomed. Happy Reading! Results fo...

Psychology at Bangor: Is it good science to keep adding participants / manipulating data until you find an effect?
http://jcpsychology.blogspot.com/2012/03/is-it-good-science-to-keep-adding.html
Sunday, 11 March 2012. Is it good science to keep adding participants / manipulating data until you find an effect? The question here it would seem should focus more on the manipulation of data rather than that of adding participants to create change in results. (Or at least that's what I think). Here is normally where a reference would go. There are no good ones). To continue, manipulation of data seems to give off a sense of laziness on the researchers part. Understandably there may be problems, re...
Psychology at Bangor: Gender Bias In Diagnosis Of Depression

Friday, 2 December 2011. Gender Bias In Diagnosis Of Depression. Following a discussion Steve Hosier had in a lecture a few days ago about depression and how women are more likely to be diagnosed with depression, it got me thinking about coping mechanisms each gender has and how that could affect amounts of diagnosis. Yeahh writing this Ive just realised it is more informative than topical, but hey its pretty interesting). Http:/ www.upliftprogram.com/facts depression men.html. 4 December 2011 at 12:57.

Can Gender Role be seen Cross Culturally? | helenjonespsychology
https://helenjonespsychology.wordpress.com/2012/04/29/can-gender-role-be-seen-cross-culturally
Can Gender Role be seen Cross Culturally? Gender role can be shaped by the influence of an individual’s culture. Medicine (1997) studied the Lakota tribe, and found that there were 3 defined genders; male female and winkte (male who desires to be female). It was observed that the winkte gender was more creative and took on the role of looking after the children, it was considered lucky to be a winkte. April 29, 2012. Semester 2. Fry (1996) conducted research into the differences of children from differen...
Can hypnosis really be successful at alleviating pain? | emilycobrien

Just another WordPress.com site. Can hypnosis really be successful at alleviating pain? Usually pain is relieved using drugs or surgery to either block certain receptors or to remove/fix the source of the problem. So what happens if these methods are unsuccessful? In some cases hypnotic analgesia is used, which is the ability to learn to cope with or get rid of the pain via hypnosis (Wagstaff, 1996). Barber, T.X., Spanos, N.P. and Chaves, J.F. (1974). Ethnocentrism & Generalisation | anisarah
https://anisarah.wordpress.com/2012/03/11/ethnocentrism-generalisation
March 11, 2012. For psychologists, generalisability is often one of the most important factors when conducting research; what’s the point of the study if it cannot be applied to others and provide useful information to the wider world? Due to the majority of research within psychology being conducted in predominately Western cultural settings (especially older research), this means that in a lot of cases, the findings of these studies are ethnocentric and cannot be generalised to other cultures. Are the ...

Just another WordPress.com site. File Drawers, dusty, or dirty? The ‘file drawer problem’ is a problem because it biases available data. Therefore, the research does not give an accurate picture of reality. The file drawer problem is the fact that more often than not, positive studies are published, while negative studies are neglected, forgotten and destined to gather dust in the bottom of someone’s file drawer. Perception and Motor Skills,. Research: Just study, or designed? February 20, 2012 at 7:11 pm.

Just another WordPress.com site. Does ‘False Consensus’ Effect Exist? February 5, 2012. False Consensus Effect is an egotistic bias, causing one to believe that others in a group will respond to a situation in exactly the same way as oneself (Dawes, 1987). For example, assuming that people hold the same beliefs and opinions towards specific behaviours and attitudes. According to Marks and Miller (1987) almost every psychologist has, at some point, found it difficult to explain a study’s findings be...

EcPsychology: How Can We Be Sure?
http://ecpsychology.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-can-we-be-sure.html
Friday, October 21, 2011. How Can We Be Sure? Being a psychologist partially requires being a researcher, which means that we always have to come up with new ideas. The interesting thing about studying psychology is that the new questions never end, since we study the behaviour of individuals and there are many factors that change it. Mental disorders can influence the validity of the results of a study. What if some of the participants are compulsive liars? Motives can also be triggering. For instan...
