A strange thing started happening though, the High Line news stories began to reference complaints made by neighbors regarding the goings-ons behind the highly visible, floor-to ceiling, picture windows of the Standard. Many guests seemed to be parading around nude, as if on stage. My friend confirmed the stories, and said the Standard is rumored to be encouraging the notoriety for their marketing. I became intrigued, and while I was reading my 3-1/2 year old was rearranging a wooden rainbow toy into the shape of a little person. I thought this was an apt metaphor for the way all. Did not run in the NY Times Book Review due to a crossed-line communication error, on my part, with the amazing art director Nicholas Blechman (tight deadline and lost e-mail! That assignment had come to me at the end of several back-to-back and more detail-oriented magazine illustrations– so actually, I was happy to get a loose, expressive drawing that I really liked out of all the scramble.
