Closing the gap – Utopr
https://utopr.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/closing-the-gap
A blog by Michael Carhart-Harris. May 1, 2015. May 1, 2015. One thing is worrying me. There is too big a gap between what I think and tell others that comms should be and what I actually do in practice. I like to think I’m pretty good at thinking innovatively, seeking out best practice and sharing new ideas when I discover them. But the examples of where I have taken a risky, innovative idea and implemented it in my work are few and far between. So my new mantra will be #JFDI. It’s time get out of ...

Lately I’ve been thinking – Utopr
https://utopr.wordpress.com/2014/07/30/lately-ive-been-thinking
A blog by Michael Carhart-Harris. Lately I’ve been thinking. July 30, 2014. July 17, 2015. This post originally appeared on my other blog, Don’t Believe the Hyphen. I never intended to do PR for a living. All I ever wanted was to be a writer. As a journalist throughout my 20s I felt like Robert Peston does. That PRs were the enemy. Purveyors of bullshit. How many PR people have I known turn back towards the former ‘light’ and a media job? But, to the point. When we get there, what do we find? Society nee...

A shared web platform for local government? – Ben Cheetham
https://ben.cheetham.me.uk/blog/2014/06/a-shared-web-platform-for-local-government
Local gov digital maker. A shared web platform for local government? Following a tweet last week by LocalGov Digital. I wanted to respond with my thoughts…. The idea of a single platform for #localgov. Comes up. Again. What do you all think? Mdash; LocalGov Digital (@LocalGovDigital) June 5, 2014. I think there could be a number of benefits to a shared platform. For our customers, it’s just one site for them to visit. They shouldn’t need to know that function. Is fulfilled by district council. When we lo...

Missed refuse collections online – Ben Cheetham
https://ben.cheetham.me.uk/blog/2014/01/missed-refuse-collections-online
Local gov digital maker. Missed refuse collections online. Just prior to Christmas we launched our missed collections reporting form on the website. Up until then missed collection reports were handled by staff in the Customer Service Centre and those that were reported before 3pm on the day of collection had to wait so the back office had time to process the paper job sheets that were returned by the crews. This is a great process because it uses real-time information from the waste management system to...
