Walks, birds, books and stuff…. Skip to primary content. March 14, 2015. A real treat for my birthday today – a day of birding around North wales with our good friends Alan Davies and Ruth Miller. Their blog of the day is terrific and can be read here. We saw so many wonderful birds – hawfinches, goshawks, red kites, chough, courting great crested grebe, purple sandpiper, red throated divers, brent geese, plus a lovely lapland bunting that stole the day for me! A trip to Burton Mere Wetlands reserve today – always a great place to visit, but today we were hoping for a very special bird. A long-eared owl has been roosting there for a few days now, and this would be a Lifer for both of us – would it still be there?
