Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered: Kilimanjaro: Hakuna Matata My Ass!!

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Kilimanjaro: Hakuna Matata My Ass! So, “Hakuna Matata” really does translate to “no worries” from Swahili. Unfortunately, the loveable faces of Timon and Pumba were far from our minds as our guides repeatedly used this phrase in an attempt to be positive. We headed out from a surprisingly busy park headquarters with pep in our step and two positive young Danish lads at our sides. Day 2 can again be summarized with 1 word, “RAIN”. We moved to a c...

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered: Bratislava, Budapest & Vienna
http://mikeandmavis.blogspot.com/2012/04/bratislava-budapest-vienna.html
Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Friday, April 6, 2012. Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna. We spent a couple of days wandering around Bratislava, exploring the city center and a couple of local castles. Me usually leading the way, and Mike bringing up the rear with his camera. He just couldn't resist the beautiful architecture and dated buildings. Bratislava had some cool statues scattered throughout the downtown - we definitely did the tourist thing and posed with pretty much all of them. Do you think it is...

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Friday, March 9, 2012. Sandstorm and International Festival. We may have avoided winter over the last few years, but apparently Santa and storms can still find us. The stories of blowing sandstorms left us with the picture of a light rain of sand gusting around. Well, as you can see below that is not exactly the case. A sand storm blew in and didn’t just limit visibility, it eliminated it. Picture the worst overnight snow storm you have ever driven in. Even a couple Canadia...

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. So They Said It Was Cheap. We added a few pictures of the local currency which converts at a rate of 3.75 Riyals= 1 USD. You only have a fifty percent chance of knowing what the money is worth in your wallet, so it takes a little organization to not look like a complete idiot in the check out line. English numbers out! Thursday, August 25, 2011. Ramadan in Saudi Arabia. And it seems even stranger to stay up past my bedtime. Saturday, August 20, 2011.

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered: The Real Saudi Arabia
http://mikeandmavis.blogspot.com/2012/02/real-saudi-arabia.html
Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Saturday, February 4, 2012. The Real Saudi Arabia. This past weekend we had a long weekend and took advantage of the extra day off to get out of the city for a day. We have been here for almost seven months now and thought it was pretty ridiculous that we haven’t stepped foot outside of this city (besides leaving by airplane on our holidays). And if you know our personality of getting outdoors and exploring new places, this excursion was long overdue. The view from the top.

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered: December 2011
http://mikeandmavis.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Thursday, December 15, 2011. A week and a half to go until Christmas (Winter if you prefer) Break and we are definitely happy about it. Our home is more and more comfortable each week, as we pick up a piece here and there. Our latest additions include a new carpet, candle sticks and most importantly a Charlie Brown style Christmas tree. Combine these pickups with a holiday bizarre or two and you are left with the feeling of consumerism that we all miss this time of year.

Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Friday, October 21, 2011. Last weekend, amongst a few Canadian Thanksgiving turkey dinners, we went to a carpet ‘show’. The middle east is well known for its carpets, and based on the design and the colors/materials used, you can tell what region the carpet was made in. The carpet seller was originally from Afghanistan and brought beautiful carpets of all shapes and sizes from Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and ones locally made in Saudi Arabia. http://mikeandmavis.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Mike and Mavis: Fully Covered. Thursday, November 17, 2011. Kickin' it in Kathmandu. In continuation with our previous posting about our Nepal trip, after packing up our hiking boots for the time being, we headed back to the big city of Kathmandu. The sounds of donkey bells, roosters and rushing rivers were replaced with honking cars, barking dogs and loud music. Kathmandu is a dirty, busy, congested city surrounded by gorgeous mountain views, good food, and cheap beer. Ridiculous, I know. We also visite...
