Logical Fallacies» Naturalistic Fallacy
http://www.logicalfallacies.info/relevance/naturalistic
There are two fundamentally different types of statement: statements of fact which describe the way that the world is, and statements of value which describe the way that the world ought to be. The naturalistic fallacy is the alleged fallacy of inferring a statement of the latter kind from a statement of the former kind. 1) Feeling envy is only natural. 2) There’s nothing wrong with feeling envy. Ad Hominem (Personal Attack). Appeal to Antiquity / Tradition. Begging the Question / Circular Reasoning.
Logical Fallacies» Appeal to Consequences
http://www.logicalfallacies.info/relevance/appeals/appeal-to-consequences
An appeal to consequences is an attempt to motivate belief with an appeal either to the good consequences of believing or the bad consequences of disbelieving. This may or may not involve an appeal to force. Such arguments are clearly fallacious. There is no guarantee, or even likelihood, that the world is the way that it is best for us for it to be. Belief that the world is the way that it is best for us for it to be, absent other evidence, is therefore just as likely to be false as true.
Logical Fallacies» Genetic Fallacy
http://www.logicalfallacies.info/relevance/genetic
The genetic fallacy is committed when an idea is either accepted or rejected because of its source, rather than its merit. Even from bad things, good may come; we therefore ought not to reject an idea just because of where it comes from, as ad hominem. Equally, even good sources may sometimes produce bad results; accepting an idea because of the goodness of its source, as in appeals to authority. 1) My mommy told me that the tooth fairy is real. 2) The tooth fairy is real. 2) Eugenics is a bad thing.
Logical Fallacies» Hasty Generalisation Fallacy
http://www.logicalfallacies.info/presumption/hasty-generalisation
A hasty generalisation draws a general rule from a single, perhaps atypical, case. It is the reverse of a sweeping generalisation. 1) My Christian / atheist neighbour is a real grouch. 2) Christians / atheists are grouches. This argument takes an individual case of a Christian or atheist, and draws a general rule from it, assuming that all Christians or atheists are like the neighbour. Ad Hominem (Personal Attack). Appeal to Antiquity / Tradition. Begging the Question / Circular Reasoning.
Logical Fallacies» ‘No True Scotsman’ Fallacy
http://www.logicalfallacies.info/presumption/no-true-scotsman
No True Scotsman' Fallacy. 8216;No True Scotsman’ Fallacy. The no true scotsman fallacy is a way of reinterpreting evidence in order to prevent the refutation of one’s position. Proposed counter-examples to a theory are dismissed as irrelevant solely because they are counter-examples, but purportedly because they are not what the theory is about. The No True Scotsman fallacy involves discounting evidence that would refute a proposition, concluding that it hasn’t been falsified when in fact it has.

The "What Are My Political Views" Rant
http://gvsmirnov.ru/blog/personal/2014/06/22/politics-rant.html
The "What Are My Political Views" Rant. From time to time, I find myself being asked what my political views. Are Every time that happens, I get frustrated. Therefore, I have decided to write this blog entry that states my position explicitly. It is rather long thanks to the possible inferential distance. Incidentally, it explains a great deal of my general outlook on life. For those unwilling to read it whole, heres the long story cut short:. Gvsmirnov on Twitter: [1]. Tritorch Technologies - Balance - Apathy is the fire in which we burn.

Strike at the Root. Core Principles: 0: Know thyself. Examine your thoughts and feelings with a critical eye. 1 Do not judge others, instead try to understand why they do the things they do. Choice does not truly exist. Had you been in their shoes you might have done the same things they've done. Read the 'Allegory of the Cave' and recognize that we're all staring at that wall to one extent or another. What we see and experience molds our minds and our actions. If so, why? Has a tv show or movie suddenly...
the attempts: ‘Negative Capability’: Rationalism and a Romantic poet’s idea
http://the-attempts.blogspot.com/2010/07/negative-capability-rationalism-and.html
8216;Negative Capability’: Rationalism and a Romantic poet’s idea. One of the happy side-effects of watching period films is the curiosity they arouse in the viewer to learn more about the characters and their era – a rewarding practice some call ‘tangential learning’. And so it was that I found myself reading up on the 19th century English Romantic poet John Keats after watching Jane Campion’s beauteous film Bright Star. 2009), a partly fictionalised story of Keats’s relationship with Fanny Brawne.
Oxford Libertarian Society Blog: Easy False Superiority
http://oxlib.blogspot.com/2010/09/like-many-people-i-was-atheist-before-i.html
Please visit our website: oxlib.org.uk. This blog is no longer being updated. Wednesday, 29 September 2010. Like many people, I was an atheist before I was a Libertarian. Or, if atheism and libertarianism are the defaults that everyone implicitly accepts until they confuse themselves with theology or philosophy, I was a self-identified atheist before I self-identified as a Libertarian. Not arguing against strawmen. Then, they would offer a counter-argument; something straight out of Economics 101, or the.

Man, Why You Even Got To Do A Thing?: July 2006
http://theconsolationofphilosophy.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Man, Why You Even Got To Do A Thing? Sunday, July 30, 2006. When we watched the fireworks? When we smoked a jay and had that circuitous conversation about stem cells? But truly: what's to be done about this? Fuck, when you can't even define what it is you want to do - how on god's green earth are you even going to go about doing it? The title: or should i confine it? And what do i have to say that ain't been said before? But a fellow can't just let the issues go by, without addressing them. so no fal...

Logical Fallacies
An Encyclopedia of Errors of Reasoning. The ability to identify logical fallacies in the arguments of others, and to avoid them in one’s own arguments, is both valuable and increasingly rare. Fallacious reasoning keeps us from knowing the truth, and the inability to think critically makes us vulnerable to manipulation by those skilled in the art of rhetoric. What is a Logical Fallacy? Formal and Informal Fallacies. Formal Fallacies (Deductive Fallacies). 1) All men are mortal. 2) Socrates is a man. Any d...
