The Logic Referee: When Republicans Are Right. . .
http://logicref.blogspot.com/2007/05/when-republicans-are-right.html
Calling fair and foul in the argumentosphere. Thursday, May 24, 2007. When Republicans Are Right. . . They're partially right. The democrats are, I am sorry to say, actually cowards. But it's not about failing to stand up to terrorists and dictators. As I've said before, "standing up" to much weaker countries when you legislate for the most powerful country in the world that is currently filled with nationalistic sentiment, is actually an incredibly easy political choice. Could they do anything more to m...
The Logic Referee: June 2007

Calling fair and foul in the argumentosphere. Thursday, June 28, 2007. You'd Think We Would Learn. The CIA recently r eleased some files referred to internally as "the family jewels". Detailing a lot of the nasty and illegal stuff they'd done during the Johnson and Nixon administrations. Of course, much of this we already knew, but it's nice to have official confirmation. Links to this post. Wish I'd thought of that. . . If I was in America. . . Links to this post. Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Dahlia Lithwick...
The Logic Referee: Supreme Court Thoughts
http://logicref.blogspot.com/2007/06/supreme-court-thoughts.html
Calling fair and foul in the argumentosphere. Tuesday, June 26, 2007. So the Bong Hits 4 Jesus kid lost in court today. I'm always sad to see a free speech case lost, but to me one of the most important points was what the Chief Justice pointed out at the beginning - the kid was not suing to have his suspension reversed or to set a precedent, he was seeking financial renumeration. The Logic Referee: This SHOULD Be Obvious
http://logicref.blogspot.com/2007/06/this-should-be-obvious.html
Calling fair and foul in the argumentosphere. Tuesday, June 19, 2007. This SHOULD Be Obvious. But apparently, it's not. The Supreme Court decided today that not only drivers, but passengers as well, have the legal right to challenge the validity of a traffic stop. My advice to passengers - ask the cop if you're free to go, if he says no, then at least you have some reason to say you were also being detained. God only knows if it will work. An American In Beijing: My Worst Fear in Beijing
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/my-worst-fear-in-beijing.html
An American In Beijing. Thursday, October 18, 2007. My Worst Fear in Beijing. Ryan and two of my friends recently had a cab driver who they were sure had just started driving - he slammed on the brakes several times, and exhibited little control over the car. And he didn't know where the train station was. The fact that such people are driving several thousand pounds of metal around scares me. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Japanese are CRAZY! An American In Beijing: Chinese Billionaires
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/11/chinese-billionaires.html
An American In Beijing. Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Last year, there were 15. This year there are over 100. It's astounding, mind-boggling, jaw-dropping, and staggering. Of course, it could all come crashing down (as, if fairness, could any newly-minted billionaire coming off their IPO in the western world). Certainly the composition of the Chinese market must be different than the US. China's economy is about 10.2 trillion USD. I've been thinking the amount of inequality must be much higher in China th...

An American In Beijing: I'm Free!
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/im-free.html
An American In Beijing. Thursday, October 18, 2007. Sweet Dan Wei informed me blogger is now accessible in China. And I'm pleased as punch. Unfortunately, it happened at the same time that YouTube has been blacklisted. Something to do with the 17th party congress? Who knows. Given that I don't actually need to read my own blog, I think I'd rather have YouTube. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Japanese are CRAZY! My Worst Fear in Beijing. Brits Get Rich in China. An American In Beijing: Stupid Ideas
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/stupid-ideas.html
An American In Beijing. Thursday, October 4, 2007. Strikes me as fairly retarded. First of all, shouldn't we have brought all these things up before the Olympics was awarded to Beijing? I'm sure the critics did, but they lost, and it's time to move on. And what do the Olympics even mean if the country that produces all of our cheap electronics and clothes, and has more nearly a fifth of the world's population can't host? http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/richest-person-in-china.html
An American In Beijing. Friday, October 12, 2007. The Richest Person in China. Jesus god almighty. Apparently her father, who started a property development company in Guangdong, gave her all of his shares, worth some 16 billion dollars, making her the richest person in China. Crazy stuff; stuff that can only happen in a place as crazy as China. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Japanese are CRAZY! My Worst Fear in Beijing. Brits Get Rich in China. An American In Beijing: Oy Vay
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/oy-vay.html
An American In Beijing. Sunday, October 14, 2007. A girl I know recently bought herself this cute little QQ car (think Chinese mini-cooper) for 40,000 RMB, or a little more than five grand. I was envious for a moment. It would be nice to be able to cruise around Beijing, especially when it's raining, or you want to go somewhere relatively far. Then I saw this blog post. It seems that the "crumple zone" in these cars is the drivers seat. Damn. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Japanese are CRAZY!

An American In Beijing: Impenetrable Chinese Politics
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/impenetrable-chinese-politics.html
An American In Beijing. Thursday, October 4, 2007. I don't think I will ever understand how the Chinese political system actually works. According to the NY Times, there's a deadlock of sorts among the upper echelons of the Communist party over who will succeed Hu JinTao at the end of his next five year term in 2012. What's interesting to me is that his opposition comes from Jiang ZeMin, the former CCCP chairman (why do we call them the president of China? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

An American In Beijing: Yellow Fever
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/11/yellow-fever.html
An American In Beijing. Thursday, November 8, 2007. Well, wonder no more because someone better educated and more dedicated than myself has done the hard work for me. A new article in slate reports the results of an economist's study of speed-dating in a bar. Unsurprising: Men value looks, and are reluctant to date a woman who is smarter or more ambitious. Women emphasize success and intelligence, and have no problem with being number 2. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

An American In Beijing: Wages in China
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/09/wages-in-china.html
An American In Beijing. Thursday, September 27, 2007. Sometimes when I go to restaurants and cafes frequented by expats I wonder about the logistics of running such a business, and how much they pay for labor and for rent. Well, after looking in the employment ads on www.thatsbj.com, I know. Here's what a pizza place (best in Beijing in my opinion) which is opening a new branch is offering:. Spelling errors are not mine). 8 Waiters/waitness(basic English required). 1200/m-1500/m, depend on experience.

An American In Beijing: Sexy Beijing
http://americaninbeijing.blogspot.com/2007/10/sexy-beijing.html
An American In Beijing. Sunday, October 14, 2007. In The Four Hour Workweek. Tim Ferriss recommends designing products and services for groups that you yourself are a part of, the idea being that it's too hard to try and understand people who are different, and much easier to simply sell to people of a similar class, culture, and lifestyle. The opening sequence is a damn good Sex in the City imitation though. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Japanese are CRAZY! My Worst Fear in Beijing.
