About | logiecoldstonepassivhaus

https://logiecoldstonepassivhaus.wordpress.com/about

We are building a new home for ourselves with the aim of being energy efficient. As a result we are going to build to the Passivhaus standards which require our house to meet some very low energy consumption targets. Principally the house cannot use any more than 15 kWh/m2 per annum for all the heating, and it must have a maximum heating load of 10w/m2. Compared to normal low energy housing this represents a big improvement in terms of energy used for heating:. 12 thoughts on “ About. Hi Dirk and Sally,.

June 13, 2012. All the dormers and soffits have now been finished. Attention to detail with the larch cladding on the dormers:. On the passivhaus front, the window frames were overclad with XPS insulation to improve their performance and then clad in larch. The barge board-soffit detail:. Additional insulation (Dritherm 32) can be seenbehind the soffits. This extends over the top of the wall cassettes and improves the thermal performance of this junction between the wall and roof. Drainage | logiecoldstonepassivhaus

https://logiecoldstonepassivhaus.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/drainage

March 7, 2013. We got ACG back to install the rainwater drainage which connects into a large soakaway, the sewage connection and most of the water supply pipework. The pipes were uPVC unfortunately, this was an area we had to compromise on, the chlorine involved in its production is not exactly great for the environment. Anyway they were laid in a bed of pea gravel:. Starting the sewage trench:. Some of the snow which didn’t help:. The last thing to go in was the soakaway:. One thought on “ Drainage.

Culbokie Passive House Diary. Just another WordPress.com site. So what’s a “Passive House”? May 29, 2013. The big question – does it work? The structure of the house has been complete now for quite a few months – although we still don’t quite have all the insulation installed, and the house still isn’t occupied. Nevertheless we’ve been building up a rough idea of how the house seems to react in different conditions. So the lessons we’ve learnt so far are:. D I suppose the answer to the question in the ti...

Culbokie Passive House Diary. Just another WordPress.com site. So what’s a “Passive House”? Monthly Archives: December 2013. What happens when there’s a power cut? December 7, 2013. This is a question we’ve been asked quite a lot – and one we’ve been asking ourselves! The other big success was that we didn’t really notice the lack of a ventilation system, maybe just opening the door a few times to feed the hens, etc. was enough to introduce a bit of fresh air. We did, however, notice the fumes from the c...

Culbokie Passive House Diary. Just another WordPress.com site. So what’s a “Passive House”? July 23, 2013. The Passive House in Summer – and an MVHR myth busted. We’ve been living in the house for just over a month now, which has coincided with an unusually long, settled spell of hot weather – virtually unheard-of in the Highlands, and certainly not what we had in mind when we were designing the house. Culbokie Passive House Diary. Just another WordPress.com site. So what’s a “Passive House”? Monthly Archives: April 2014. The Passive House in Spring. April 22, 2014. Actually, it seems as if we’ve pretty much skipped spring and gone straight to summer. We had a week away, and got back in the evening on Easter Saturday to find the living room at almost 23 deg C, and the thermal store at 68 deg C! So I was interested to hear about a Passive House in Fife which was built using Warmcell insulation in the wa...

WC still to be fitted, and window-cill still to be re-made, but all-in-all, an elegant solution. We’ve also been making progress with the shower-room, unfortunately this involved more concrete-cutting to fit the trap in the shower-tray. Tom was somewhere in the dust with his stone saw (and respirator). The Passive House in Spring. The Passive House in Winter.
