The art of budget cooking. Saturday, 26 July 2008. I'm very excited, on my walk yesterday I found a hord of wild raspberries! Bushes and bushes of them. When we moved into the area, a local man explained that the raspberries where originally planted by the railway men at strategic points along the train track (now turned into walking/cycling/horse trail.). A good friend has just emailed me this recipe, which I will be trying out very soon. Thanks again Jenny. A few tablespoons of barley. Ps Today’s...

Lovely served with rice, and lemon wedges. 2 onions, chopped. 3 tbs olive oil or veg oil. 3 garlic cloves, chopped. 750g (1 and half lb) mutton. 1-2 tsp sugar or to taste. I’m ...

The art of budget cooking. Monday, 27 October 2008. I’m rather annoyed I missed apple day to post this one on! Http:/ www.commonground.org.uk. Being a big fan of English Apples, and any excuse them. This recipe does just that, and being homemade, it can easily be made egg-free, dairy free- and lets face it there are not many egg-free, dairy free puddings around. Cooking puddings yourself also saves money, and is very satisfying! 125g (4oz) plain flour. 50g (2oz) fine oatmeal. 75g (3oz) caster sugar.

Wednesday, 23 December 2015. Detail from the quilt Bombers Moon. The inner, personal, journey for myself has been to try to accept the death of my father, Ellis. For him, arthur martha was a source of pleasure, curiosity, sadness - he continually asked about our sessions and the people we met. We talked about arthur martha right up until his death. As an old soldier he was especially touched by the interviews with another ex-soldier, Warren. Labels: arthur and martha. Thursday, 17 December 2015. Yesterda...

Wednesday, 30 September 2015. Asleep in the hedgerows. It's lovely when two projects come together and Stitching the War. S and The Homeless Library. It turns out that 'tramps' where a regular sight in the countryside in the 30s and beyond. Tom and Bill, (Bill, sorely missed) Social Group, Farming Life Centre. Asleep in the hedgerows. I used to take a dog with me and send him in first to check the barn, once saw a wellie sticking out of the hay barn. The hay barn near Ashford always had tramps in it.

Wednesday, 8 June 2016. Hellos and goodbyes: Sing me to Sleep. Yesterday was a sad farewell to our wonderful group at The Booth Centre (Resource centre for homeless people in Manchester) working on the project Sing me to Sleep. The group as normal split into two, one working with me embroidering the quilt, one working with Phil on poems. People quickly became absorbed in the activity, conversation didn't interrupt the business of stitching and creative writing. The theme today was endings. A map of you.

Wednesday, 30 November 2016. I'm in the office at an asylum seekers' shelter with Gordon the manager, getting acclimatised to the place and letting people see my face, know my name.
