The Garden at Oswegatchie School. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Mother Nature Helps Out. Peppers are starting to form! Mother Nature has been very generous with the rain so far this season. We haven't had to use the hose that often. Tonight we were contemplating running over and giving the Garden a drink when the skies opened up and dropped a quick inch and one half of rain down. It's nice to not have to schlep over there so often to water. Tomatoes enjoying the heat. The first of the cucumbers are popping out.

Part of today's Garden club was inspired by her Draw Yourself Back to Nature art class Rob and I are taking online. Children were encouraged to go into the Garden and sketch what they were drawn to. The Garden at Oswegatchie School. Thursday, April 24, 2014. The weather was a questionable yesterday. It was cool and very rainy in the late morning/early afternoon. We hold Garden Club rain or shine but we prefer shine. We lucked out as the brisk breeze blew away the rain clouds and we were able to get outside and get to work. The Garden at Oswegatchie School. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Here are some of the beneficial insects taking up residence in our school garden. Assassin bugs use their long "beak" to pierce prey and inject it with lethal toxins that kill the insect within a few seconds. That same toxin will liquefy the insides of the prey which will then be drunk by the assassin bug. Ladybug or ladybird beetle. I'm going to check with Dianne Houlihan in the school kitchen and see if she would like to start serving some. The tango salad mixes are coming along nicely as well. The Garden at Oswegatchie School. Sunday, November 23, 2014. Now that the weather is turning colder, not too much is growing in the garden. Most of the vegetables have been harvest and the remaining flower heads have all been picked clean by the birds. The kale that was planted during the summer garden session is still growing strong and has a very hearty flavor thanks to the cold temperatures.
