Allotment Diary

Wednesday, 15 July 2015. JULY PLANTING Tomatoes and Squash. Pre holiday planting session today. Cleared out all remaining plants from the back garden, several varieties of tomatoes, squash and pumpkins. The plants were good specimens, so I'm hoping that by the time we get back from our holidays we'll have something to show for our efforts. The chillies (behind the windbreaker) are growing slowly. Monday, 18 May 2015. I harvested a couple of very nice cabbages yesterday which scared the children somewhat.

Allotment Diary: September 2012

http://www.londonallotmentdiary.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 30 September 2012. AT LAST - AN ALLOTMENT! Having been on the Wandsworth Council allotment waiting list since 2005 it was a bit of a thrill to open an email from the Geraldine Kelly, Strategy and Information Officer. To find that I was now at the top of the waiting list and that I could select one from four available at the Garrett Park site. The allotment year starts on 1st October but Geraldine was happy for me to meet with John Hooper, the allotments manager, in order to take a look.

Monday, 1 October 2012. JOB ONE - THE SHED. In better shape than you'd think after a cursory glance. Only two man-made things can be seen from space. The Great Wall of China, and this:. An old Shed door and a packed out place. Of community, cultural, artistic bliss…. If the world has a centre then this is it,. And I’m only exaggerating a tiny bit! 169; Ian McMillan July 2001. If your home measured two metres by one point eight it's unlikely you'd be all that happy. For so many people? It's then just a ma...

Allotment Diary: May 2015

http://www.londonallotmentdiary.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 18 May 2015. It hasn't been a bad start to the year. Temperatures have been higher than normal, there's been rain, and the fruit trees and bushes have benefitted accordingly. I harvested a couple of very nice cabbages yesterday which scared the children somewhat. Ham, mash and mustard sauce I reckon. Garlic and onions as well as shallots (bottom left). Beans were grown in loo rolls. Is there any other way? Figs Only produced a handful last year. Able to spend there. Would be nice to get t.

Allotment Diary: June 2013

http://www.londonallotmentdiary.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 14 June 2013. A PLEASANT MID JUNE DAY AT THE ALLOTMENT. The council kindly left a big pile of mulch by the entrance to the allotment so I thought now would be a good time to spread some over the paths that have been looking a little overgrown of late. Every allotment should have a friendly robin to keep you company. Mine is very used to the activity at the allotment and always pops up after I´ve been doing a bit of digging or tidying up, and seems rather keen on the compost bin (see pic). Well th...
