The large 20-foot diameter means there is ample room for upwards of a dozen personnel inside while the scope is operational. Thus members frequently host educational groups interested in learning more about the night sky. Adjacent to the computer console is a work and research desk.

Originally used almost exclusively for visual observing, the Lone Star telescope is fully capable of CCD imaging and data collection. A full description of the CCD equipment owned by the observatory and available for use by all members is included in a separate tab on the opening page of the website. The scope is housed in a 20 diameter dome designed and constructed by the members. The floor of the observatory is elevated approximately 3 feet off the ground to eliminate ground effects. Adjacent to the observatory is a 24 by 24 clubhouse, which features a lounge area, full kitchen, bunkroom, and full service bath. It is heated and air-conditioned. Typical Moon image and size of Horsehead in lowest power eyepiece. The f/16 focal ratio yields very large imges.

She talks about her own experiences working at a grocery store, with an irate couple relying on their food stamp card and mismanaging their resources, as well as many people using their food stamps to purchase large quantities of junk food. She goes on to say that the government should be more careful in choosing who to assist in order to avoid allowing lazy people to live off of welfare funds.
