With the assistance of two caregivers, Thandeka manages to transport the children to and from school everyday. She feeds them breakfast, lunch and a snack.In between feeding, she tells them stories and they play games. Parents currently pay a monthly fee of R300 in an attempt to cover the running costs of the centre. Thandeka struggles to make ends meet since this money barely covers the petrol bill! Thandeka Mafila recognised a need for a day care for children with disabilities after hearing a plea on radio Zibonele. In may 2010 two physiotherapy students from the University of the Western Cape recognised the centre was in need of help. The centre had become too small for the number of children who needed to be accommodated. Mrs Mafila and her husband had started building an extra room; due to a lack of funds they could not complete it. Quality beverages (jive) agreed to sponsor the makeover. With the help of Newkidz on the Block and 46 volunteers the renovation took place over 46 hours in August. How you can help.
