Look Back Springfield

Springield, Illinois: Its History and Our Memories. Wednesday, December 26, 2007. The South Grand dining corridor. Then and now, starting at 12th and South Grand and going west to Second. The Den Chilli Parlor (somewhere in the middle of the block between 12th and 11th; there may have been a couple different versions of this over the years). The Southtown Grill (11th and South Grand; this is the first place my mom ever took me out to lunch; I think I had a fried egg sandwich). Some little pie place?

Look Back Springfield: Thrifty Drug

http://lookbackspringfield.blogspot.com/2005/07/thrifty-drug.html

Springield, Illinois: Its History and Our Memories. Monday, July 04, 2005. It hasn't been all that long since Thrifty Drugs closed up around these parts. But, does anyone remember that, at one time, there were two downtown - a block away from each other. One was at the northeast corner of Sixth and Monroe, and the other was at the northwest corner of Fifth and Monroe. These two Thrifty Drugs had something going for them that the others did not. Fresh food. Did anyone besides me ever eat at these places?

Look Back Springfield: Cheap gas spotted in Springfield!!!

http://lookbackspringfield.blogspot.com/2005/09/cheap-gas-spotted-in-springfield.html

Springield, Illinois: Its History and Our Memories. Thursday, September 01, 2005. Cheap gas spotted in Springfield! Ok, so it was nearly 30 years ago - but it seems like just yesterday doesn't it? 6th and South Grand - c. 1977. Photo courtesy of Sangamon Valley Collection at Lincoln Library. Posted by Russ at 1:24 PM. The sad part of this photo is that it was likely originally taken to show how HIGH gas prices were. I thought your blog was cool and i think you may like this cool Website.

Look Back Springfield: Conn's Cafeteria

http://lookbackspringfield.blogspot.com/2005/11/conns-cafeteria.html

Springield, Illinois: Its History and Our Memories. Monday, November 07, 2005. This entry is prompted by memories triggered from photographs in Springfield Rewind: Monroe Between 5th and 6th - 1949. Featuring the Senate Movie Theater on the north side of Monroe between Fifth and Sixth. By the 70's, on each side of the Senate were dining establishments. You could get into both those restaurants from doorways inside the lobby of the Senate, or, of course, from the street. Posted by Marie at 4:55 PM. Didn't...

Look Back Springfield: The SJ-R Looks Back

http://lookbackspringfield.blogspot.com/2005/11/sj-r-looks-back.html

Springield, Illinois: Its History and Our Memories. Sunday, November 13, 2005. The SJ-R Looks Back. The Springfield Journal-Register has a link up on its web site to a series of photos from Springfield’s past. These are pictures originally published in the SJ-R. I’m not going to post any of those pictures here since the linked-to SJ-R page is dedicated solely to those pictures. Just go there and take a look. Some are quite interesting. There’s also a good aerial photo. I’d like them to do more of this.

Look Back Springfield: Georgian On My Mind

http://lookbackspringfield.blogspot.com/2005/07/georgian-on-my-mind.html

Springield, Illinois: Its History and Our Memories. Friday, July 08, 2005. Georgian On My Mind. Let's have your memories of the Georgian and the other places to get a burger (and God knows what else) at 3 am. Posted by Jim at 6:07 AM. I'm afraid I was in the same Mr. Ted's group you were, Jim. But your question did bring something else mind: a place I used to go BEFORE the 3:00 AM visit to Monsieur Thoedore's. And what was that specialty drink they served? It was blue. Or I was drunk. Or both. Back to th...

The Eleventh Hour: Holy Wars

http://the11thhour.blogspot.com/2009/11/holy-wars.html

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Predictably, after the Ft. Hood shooting some idiot conservatives are suggesting that we do some sort of. Loyalty exam for Muslim-Americans. Before allowing them into the US military. Who is "we"? Who gets to do this exam? What, presumably more American people like whites or Christians? Why don't Muslim Americans decide which Christians get to enter the US military? Oh, does that sound offensive?

The Eleventh Hour: I’m Back

http://the11thhour.blogspot.com/2006/04/im-back.html

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Thursday, April 13, 2006. Had a long day of traveling. I doubt I’ll be beer blogging until some time later tomorrow, if then. I do have some travel observations though. Info-junkies like me gotta love this. Thing is, I saw and heard a lot of more “normal” people using this information. A woman sitting behinds me was explaining a lot of geography and other things to her child as they monitored this feature. You May Think You&#82...

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Thursday, October 15, 2009. This blog is getting (relatively) heavy traffic today because if you search Google Images for “Meghan McCain boobs”, the fourth pic listed is the photo I used in this post. Anyway, just for fun, here’s the picture again! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). And Where Was Oprah? Rural White on White Crime Now Rampant. Healthcare is Hard Pt. 4. Subscribe Now: Feed Icon. The Eleventh Hour: I’ll Take Afghanistan for One Million

http://the11thhour.blogspot.com/2009/12/ill-take-afghanistan-for-one-million.html

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Thursday, December 03, 2009. I’ll Take Afghanistan for One Million. I know this is incredibly simplistic math but if we are sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan at a cost of $30 billion, that means each troop sent there is costing us a million dollars. And, of course, each troop only sees an infinitesimally small fraction of that cash while he or she is the one being shot at. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Eleventh Hour: Worldly

http://the11thhour.blogspot.com/2009/10/worldly.html

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Thursday, October 08, 2009. I love it when the media discovers the world. The childlike awe and amazement is cute:. CNN) - Nearly one in four people worldwide is Muslim - and they are not necessarily where you might think, according to an extensive new study that aims to map the global Muslim population. China has more Muslims than Syria. Germany has more Muslims than Lebanon. This story treats this information like a new ring.

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Richard Roeper wonders what I wonder:. If you watched any football over the weekend, you probably saw a certain commercial for DirecTV once. Or twice. For the last three years, DirecTV has been enlisting the services of actors who re-create a famous role in a familiar scene from a movie, before breaking character and telling us about the benefits of getting DirecTV. Doing the "King Kong" thing again.

The Eleventh Hour: Starting Points

http://the11thhour.blogspot.com/2009/12/starting-points.html

Politics, life, music and other stuff from someone who doesn't know anything. Monday, December 14, 2009. There are a million points of contention between people who support general healthcare reform and those who don’t. But the one I find most interesting is the starting point of most of the pro and con arguments. This second position really frustrates me because this really is a matter of saying “I’ve got mine, go fuck yourself” to those who don’t have access to proper healthcare...Meaningful reform wil...

Friday 5: Wisdom | Johann Drops a Blog

https://johanndropsablog.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/friday-5-wisdom

Johann Drops a Blog. It’s the Pu-pocalypse! RIP Oscar Taveras 1992-2014 →. September 19, 2014 · 12:09 pm. So I thought I’d blow the dust off of this blog (again) with a little ditty called Friday 5. There is a blog that asks five questions every Friday (hence, the name), and the questions are related by a common theme. Sometimes the link is barely there. This week’s questions are about wisdom. Wisdom is defined by Dictionary.com as the knowledge. Cuz Degree is a deodorant! 8230; um… sorry), “...I dunno&#...
