28th Mar. 2012 : Mars and Venus. The planets have been looking fantastic from the UK over the last few weeks with Venus and Jupiter in conjunction in the west at sunset and Mars bright all night. Last night I finally had a chance to go and take a good look; I got a couple of very pleasing images of both Mars and Venus - in fact this is my very first image of Mars. Type here to refine the glossary:. A scale for measuring the actual brightness of a celestial object without accounting for the distance of the object. Absolute magnitude measures how bright an object would appear if it were exactly 10 parsecs (about 33 light-years) away from Earth. On this scale, the Sun has an absolute magnitude of 4.8 while it has an apparent magnitude of -26.7 because it is so close. A process by where the atmosphere melts away and removes the surface material of an incoming meteorite.

28th Mar. 2012 : Solar System Planets. I thought I'd put together a quick group collection of solar system planets. They are all taken at different times of year and at different times on their orbits so they are not to any sort of scale, but they are approximately correct as you'd see them from earth relatively. 1st Jul. 2015 : New Horizons Finally Arrives at Pluto. New Horizons has just completed, its (nearly-decade-long) journey to fly by Pluto, and reveal humanity's first close-up look at the distant dwarf planet. Pluto has been revealed to be an incredible place, full of amazing - and very unexpected geology! Data from New Horizons suggests that at least two (and maybe even all four) of Pluto's moons were born from mergers of even smaller moons. New Horizons Image Gallery. No comments yet :(. Look Up And Wonder :: The Transit of Venus June 2012
http://www.lookupandwonder.com/The-Transit-of-Venus-June-2012
6th Jun. 2012 : The Transit of Venus June 2012. The weather looked horrible at 4:45am (sunrise) from Ashdown Forest, South East UK. Luckily for just a few minutes very close to 5:37am (3rd Contact) the skies cleared just enough to grab a few frames. As usual I realised (once again) that camera lenses are no match for a telescope with it's light gathering power and fine focus ability. Anyway, I was very happy to have captured the last Venus transit for 105 or so years. Ndash; 7 June, 2012 at 8:11 am.
