Dianne's Loom Talk: December 2014
https://loomtalk.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
My Adventures in Hand Weaving. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. I'll just sneak in with this one before the end of the year. 52 metres of cloth for son in laws speakers. Its not all for him unless there are mistakes made! Black is linen plied with an unknown manmade fibre. Sand is 3 threads of 20/2 cotton from DEA yarns. Draft from 8 shaft patterns (Strickler) book, pattern no. 715,. Because that is what was on the unit its replacing. Just what he wanted" was the verdict. And all the best wishes for 2015.
Dianne's Loom Talk: Kotare Scarves
https://loomtalk.blogspot.com/2015/08/kotare-scarves.html
My Adventures in Hand Weaving. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Our neighbours, the Australians might not be putting on a decent show at cricket for some weaver's liking but they beat the All Blacks at Rugby last weekend! But we won the netball so all's fair in TransTasman rivalry. Sorry to be repeating information here but Kotare is one of my favourite colour way resources. Bird with a green-blue back, buff to yellow. Undersides and a large black bill. August 13, 2015 11:08 AM. All I can say is WOW!
Dianne's Loom Talk: Its not easy being green!
https://loomtalk.blogspot.com/2015/08/its-not-easy-being-green.html
My Adventures in Hand Weaving. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Its not easy being green! About 12 months ago I bought the first of these slivers from fibre2go. I opened up the rolag and found - fire. Still not satisfied I then took home Spring Greens sliver, again alpaca, merino, silk combination, from the Cambridge open day. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was spinning these fibres and how devinely gorgeous they feel. Now what do I make from them? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

My Adventures in Hand Weaving. Saturday, January 17, 2015. By the Skin of my Teeth. By the skin of my teeth. What an odd expression! Where did it come from? And what does it mean? By a very narrow margin; only just.). My mother used to say it a lot. I think its probably appropriate for this. 840 threads 72/2 alpaca silk hand dyed,. That's all that's left. Now to thread the loom. Links to this post. Thursday, January 15, 2015. Crammed and Spaced Scarves. 2/1 twill didn't cram as much as tabby. Happy 2015 ...
Dianne's Loom Talk: Kereru scarves
https://loomtalk.blogspot.com/2015/08/kereru-scarves.html
My Adventures in Hand Weaving. Saturday, August 8, 2015. Kereru or New Zealand Pigeon or Wood Pigeon. Grows to about 50cm and reaches a weight of 650 gms. The head, throat and wings are generally a shiny green/purple colour with a bronze tinge to the feather tips. The breast is white. Kereru primarily eat fruit from native trees especially karaka and taraire and they are the only bird big enough to disperse the seeds from bigger fruit throughout the forest. They also browse on leaves and nuts.

Tapestry Weaving and Textile Arts in Aotearoa. Information and Updates From Stephenie Collin. Monday, September 19, 2011. Tapestry in the Making. These are the first couple of pics of the tapestry I will be documenting as I weave it. Full detail of the colour is going to be dictated by just how fussy I decide to be as time goes on. However it looks as though this left-hand panel will be following reasonably closely to the script. Photo 1 The very beginning. Links to this post. Franklin Annual Art Awards.

Tapestry Weaving and Textile Arts in Aotearoa. Information and Updates From Stephenie Collin. Friday, October 28, 2011. The weaving that didn't want to be woven! I have been thinking about the wisdom of sharing my recent disaster on the loom. After all, this blog is a showcase of what should be varied and interesting hand-woven tapestries that are worked smoothly from woe to go. This time it has gone from woe to woes. Should I be sharing my failures as well as the pieces that I am happy with? I have now ...

Hangs by a thread. Spinning, crochet, weaving and dyeing. Sunday, April 13, 2014. Woven Alpaca and wool tunic. Remember this fabric from last year. With different areas of pattern. It turned into several metres of fabric. And finally got sewn into a tunic utilising nearly every bit of the fabric. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out and should help keep me warm on my days in the cold stone textile shop this winter. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Doe's shop on FELT. Hangs by a thread. Spinning, crochet, weaving and dyeing. Wednesday, October 8, 2014. The rewards for working with plant dyes are subtle but complex and beautiful colour. And. Mostly a fragrant slightly earthy smelling dye shed. I love how the colours all go together and how so few dyestuffs can bring out many different colours. Modified by heat, acid or alkali. Plush buttercup yellow and plummy purple. Even on a dull day like today the colours gently vibrate. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Doe's shop on FELT.

Hangs by a thread. Spinning, crochet, weaving and dyeing. Wednesday, February 4, 2015. This is the wheel I have spun kilos and kilos of yarn on nearly every day for the past 7 or maybe 8 years. Her foot boards are now worn thin, the hinges needing to be replaced soon. She's no beauty compared to her Majacraft sisters. The plain but serviceable one. The Cinderella. Freshly plant dyed handspun yarns. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Doe's shop on FELT. Crochet Alpaca Cowl - Free pattern. Weaving, spinning, dyeing.

Tapestry Weaving and Textile Arts in Aotearoa. Information and Updates From Stephenie Collin. Saturday, May 26, 2012. Warping up for more than one project. When it comes to warping up I tend to be a good planner, which ultimately allows me to be a very lazy warper. Here below is an example of 4 separate weavings that shared a wider warp. Note the spare warps between each individual weaving. Links to this post. Alan Measles Will Save Us. Alan Measles Will Save Us. A photo by gitamalhotra. Tapestry weaving...

Tapestry Weaving and Textile Arts in Aotearoa. Information and Updates From Stephenie Collin. Wednesday, December 14, 2011. TAPESTRY LOOMS VERSUS JUST GETTING ON WITH IT. My work in the main, is woven on any one of my 3-4 looms which are 2-shaft, peddle operated, upright looms. They are all well and truly pre-loved and wonderfully functional. A new and larger specifically tapestry loom would be fantastic, but is not imperative for actually producing a hand woven tapestry. Comfort needs were likely to be.

My Adventures in Hand Weaving. Saturday, March 31, 2018. The many faces of this possum merino silk wrap. Woven as turned taquete with a navy and taupe warp sett at 36 epi and a blue silk weft. It can be worn with the buttoned edge down the shoulder as a poncho style garment. Or with the buttons down the front. Note how the lines increase in size to the centre back then deminish again. Undo the buttons and it is lovely as a conventional wrap. Or as a pull through scarf. Links to this post. I did some disc...
