Art of John Guy

Monday, May 21, 2012. Before I started on my own T-Rex, I did a study of another artists T-Rex. I would have studied photos too, but obviously that wasn't possible in this case. First, I sketched the T-Rex. I focused on giving the sketch three-dimensional structure. To do this a studied T-Rex fossil skeletons. Then I added a quick color layer. This is just flat colors on an overlay layer on top of the grey scale layer. Monday, April 30, 2012. It has been a while since I've posted and I have a lot of work...

Art of John Guy: April 2012

http://looneymoon.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 30, 2012. It has been a while since I've posted and I have a lot of work to post. This post will be for my final model pack. This was the final assignment for my character design class. The assignment was to design three characters and a vehicle that fit together in a show, short or feature, and to produce turnarounds, poses etc. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Vancouver, BC, Canada. Art of John Guy: October 2011

http://looneymoon.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 10, 2011. Animation School - The Beginning. So far, this blog has been mainly concerned with self taught art study. Now that I am in school, I still believe all the same principles this blog was about before still apply. The only difference now is instead of self-directed study, I will be posting about my study under the direction of the staff at Capilano University. I feel my jumping ball moves somewhat stiffly. It could use less drawings on the assent to make the action seem faster.

Art of John Guy: March 2012

http://looneymoon.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 4, 2012. Animation Exercises - week 2. These are this weeks Animation Exercises. This weeks subject was a very simplified head structure. I based this structure off of the structure used by Andrew Loomis in his book: Drawing the Head and Hands. This week I received some excellent advice from Rainplace (I think Mike Nguyen is his name). He recommended having an emotional motivation for the movement. I tried to work that in starting on day 6. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I applied a similar method to the study of the torso as applied to the arms and legs. Monday, May 16, 2011. Anatomy Studies - Arms and Legs. Art of John Guy: February 2012

http://looneymoon.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 26, 2012. It is early to say whether these exercises will give the desired result, but I am very optimistic they will. I plan to keep doing these exercises every day as long as I can find the time. Each week I will chose another simple shape and gradually get more complex while staying simple enough to remain focused on the movement. Tuesday, February 21, 2012. For these first layouts, the assignment was to create a composition with two characters, a briefcase, an animal, and a vehicle.

The Weekly Walk: Week 16 - Bambi

http://weeklywalkanimation.blogspot.com/2012/02/week-16-bambi.html

Friday, February 24, 2012. Week 16 - Bambi. This walk was copied from Bambi. It is one of the earlier scenes when Bambi is still a faun. His walk has a spring in his step. My copy of the walk with a colt works but it doesn't quite capture the feeling that the original does. Still copying from the masters is always good practice. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sunday, November 27, 2011. Week 6 - Copied Walk - Animator's Survival Kit. This walk is copied from the Richard Williams' Animator's Survival Kit. He copied it from Milt Kahl. I have been getting better at going through my own animation frame by frame and fixing mistakes, so this one should play very smoothly. Friday, November 25, 2011. Week 6 - Copied Walk. The Weekly Walk: February 2012

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Week 17 - Parasaurolophus. He is loosely based off of a Parasaurolophus, a species of duck-billed dinosaur. They didn't have webbed feet, and probably walked on all fours, but I clearly was not going for accuracy. I had some extra time with spring break so I spent time designing the character and cleaning up the animation. This is one of the weekly walks I am most proud of. Friday, February 24, 2012. Friday, January 27, 2012. Week 13 - Big Butt. The walk for this week is a character with a big butt. The character can walk anyway you like as long as he/she/it junk in the trunk.
