Just another WordPress.com site. To me, working memory is simply a way of processing what I have already learned and what I need to learn. The word working is the present tense form of the noun work. Which means: effort directed to produce or accomplish something and memory. One Response to “Working Memory”. What are those processes really? What do we mean by the word “processes” in reading? I think Adams’s model gives us a clear notion of what those processes that Daneman and Carpenter referred to.

Participants: 98 African American children with 82% eligible for free and reduced lunch. Results: The kindergarten and first grade group showed significantly higher gains than the comparison classes in vocabulary when it was specifically instructed. Participants: 40 African American with 81% eligible for free and reduced lunch.

It made sende and seems doable for students of all ages. I hope to implement this kind of vocabulary study after read aloud time next year in my classroom. Hopefully it will make an impact on the vocabulary development of our students verbally and within the context of print. I wonder if this would be a good K-5 strategy for our school?
